Why Use An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting?

Why should you even consider using a dirt bike and an electric one for that matter on your next hunt?
What does an electric dirt bike bring to the hunting table that makes it a compelling choice?
Benefits Of Using An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting
Let’s look at some of the advantages that an electric dirt bike gives you, the hunter.
Electric Hunting Bikes Get You Closer To Your Prey
Image: ©Bakcou
One big plus of an electric bike is its extremely low sound emission.
Being almost completely silent, an electric dirt bike allows you, the hunter, to get yourself into the perfect position.
If you are on a scouting mission this is extremely helpful to conceal your movement and avoid spooking the animal, isn’t it?
When hunting elk on an electric dirt bike, this also comes in very handy. You can actually hear them calling while you’re riding. And since elks can move around a lot being able to cover lots of ground while scouting them can be a big advantage when trying to find your elk.
Electric Hunting Bikes Give You Better Ambush Success
Image: ©BowhuntingRoad
Unlike gasoline-based vehicles, electric dirt bikes don’t produce any smoke or fumes that could give you away and alert the animals before you even arrive which can have a big impact on the success of any hunting trip.
It’s also very beneficial when you are checking your trail cameras and you want to be in and out as quickly as possible without leaving any scent trail.
Electric Hunting Bikes Give You Access To Better Hunting Grounds

With an electric dirt bike, it’s much easier to access even more remote and challenging hunting locations.
Electric Hunting Bikes Dominate Rough Terrain
Image: ©Bakcou
An electric dirt bike for hunting enables you to get deep into rough terrain without getting slowed down.
A whole plethora of different terrains such as gravel, dirt, fallen brushes, mud, and even steep hills now become easily maneuverable.
An Electric Hunting Bike Carries Your Gear For You
Image: ©Outdoor Zone
With an electric dirt bike, you can haul a tremendous amount of hunting gear without any problems.
In addition to a trailer, you can even add gun/bow holders and other tie-downs to make your job easier.
An Electric Hunting Bike Moves You More Quickly
Image: ©Bakcou
With an electric dirt bike for hunting you can also move around more quickly and navigate any rough terrain to find that perfect hunting spot or follow that moving herd.
An Electric Hunting Bike Lets You Cover More Distance
In addition to speed, an electric dirt bike also allows you to cover much more hunting ground which in turn can increase your chances of success significantly.
An Electric Hunting Bike Carries Your Hunt For You
After a successful hunt, an electric dirt bike helps you easily pull along your game, for example.
Just imagine how amazing it will feel when you recover your hunt in ONE single trip with ease and subsequently spend more time with your loved ones enjoying a good meal after your success.
An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Is Easy To Transport
Compared to their gasoline-powered counterparts electric dirt bikes for hunting are lightweight and portable and surprisingly easy to store and bring along.
An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Is Easy To Maintain
They’re also much easier to maintain compared to gasoline-based modes of transport. A proper wash and a recharge are usually all that’s required to prepare for your next trip.
An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Can Save You Money
If all of that wasn’t enough already, an electric dirt bike for hunting is also more affordable than your average 3 or 4-wheeler which is kind of like the icing on the cake, isn’t it?
An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Is Just More Fun
It’s just great fun to go on the hunt with such a formidable machine. It’s definitely a cool ride that makes you look pretty cool, too.
In addition, it’s kind of multi-purpose because you can also take your electric dirt bike for a spin when you’re not hunting.
How awesome is that?
How Is An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Better Than A Quad, Side-by-Side, Or Other ATV?
Image: ©Bakcou
We have already discussed some of the advantages of using an electric dirt bike for hunting vs a regular electric bike or a human-powered bicycle. But what are the differences between an electric dirt bike and a quad bike or an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for hunting?
And the answer is: “That depends”.
Each mode of transportation has its strengths and weaknesses and it largely depends on the intended use case as to which one is the more suitable option.
Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Vs ATVs
Image: ©Pexels.com
ATVs are an excellent choice if you need to carry a lot of weight or a lot of bulky items or both.
They’re also great if you want to ride for an extended range (I’m talking around 120 miles (or maybe more) on a single tank) or need powerful acceleration.
However, since they’re gasoline-powered engines they emit a lot of noise and fumes which will make it almost impossible to stalk your prey without being detected. It also puts more pressure on the environment.
ATVs can also be a potential fire hazard due to possible fuel leaks.
They’re also more expensive than an electric dirt bike for hunting and offer only limited capabilities for carrying additional passengers.
Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Vs UTVs
Image: ©Pexels.com
Side-by-sides or “utility task vehicles” (UTVs) have their own merits as well.
If you’re looking for a vehicle that can get you to faraway places (I’m talking 150 miles on a single tank) then look no further: the side-by-side is for you.
With a spare tank of fuel, you can stretch the horizon even further.
What’s more, you can easily invite some of your hunting buddies and still have enough room for all of your hunting gear as well.
No matter where you’re heading, a side-by-side can get you through mud or snow and if you fit a heater or air-conditioning you can even do it in comfort and style.
On the downside, side-by-sides are not that agile. Due to their size, they won’t be able to access as many narrow trails as an electric bike can, for example.
Just like UTVs, side-by-sides suffer from the main drawbacks of noise and fume emissions which, of course, are not ideal for hunting, aren’t they?
And then there is the higher price point and the potential risk of fuel leaks and even fires.
So Should You Consider Using An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting?
Image: ©Bakcou
In summary, electric dirt bikes for hunting, quad bikes/ATVs, and side-by-sides/UTVs all have their advantages and disadvantages depending on what your specific hunting requirements are.
At the end of the day, you need to decide for yourself, which mode of transportation will give you the most benefits on your hunting trips and the most bang for your buck.
Have fun!
Best Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting Buying Guide
Image: ©Bakcou
Let’s look at some of the most important factors to consider when choosing the best electric dirt bike for hunting that’s perfect for your needs.
The important components of any electric dirt bike that can impact your hunting experience are:
- The Motor
- The Battery
- The Frame
- The Tires.
In your evaluation we recommend you consider the following aspects:
The Motor Of The Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting
The motor is the most important and most impressive component of your electric hunting bike. It determines the strength and/or power of the electric bike and its ability to get you in and out of the wilderness without any problems.
This includes the maximum speed of the hunting ebike and its pulling power (how much weight can it carry and pull).
This also includes how steep the electric hunting bike can go, and what pitch and slope in terrain it can handle.
Most electric bikes for hunting come with either a hub motor or a mid drive motor. The former is usually located in the rear wheel turning your bike into a rear wheel drive. Mid drive motors, on the other hand, are located in the middle of the bike near the pedals.
Some hunting ebikes feature an ultra mid drive motor, like the Bafang Ultra motor, for example, which is a mid drive motor with additional sensors.
A hub motor is considered a reliable source of power while mid drive motors are generally considered great at hill climbing. Ultra mid drive electric bikes are considered to be even more powerful and even better at climbing hills than their mid drive counterparts.
A hub motor is often the cheapest option while mid drive motors usually demand a higher price. However, an ultra mid drive motor is probably the most expensive motor available on the market today. It gives you the most natural feeling ride experience but many of the best electric bikes deliver superior performances with the other 2 motor types, too.
A small number of premium electric hunting bikes feature dual hub motors. These bikes have a rear hub and a front hub motor which makes them twice as powerful. This can seriously improve their off road capabilities while also putting some pressure on the battery life.
The Battery Of Hunting Ebikes
Image: ©delfastbikes.com
Having a strong motor also requires a strong battery that can provide enough energy for a long enough period. Many brands feature a frame integrated battery. Ultra mid drive bikes or those with dual hub motors often come with dual batteries as a power source.
While dual batteries offer twice the energy they usually also come with a higher price tag.
You should pay attention to the range of the bike’s battery, i.e. how many miles can you ride on a single battery charge. Make sure this matches your hunting requirements.
The charge-ability of the battery, i.e. how long does it take to fully recharge the battery, and the expected battery life, i.e. how many charging cycles can you expect to get out of the battery over its overall lifetime are two more aspects to consider, too.
The Frame Of Electric Hunting Bikes
The frame is another important component of an electric hunting bike. It plays a pivotal role in the overall quality, durability, and longevity of the electric dirt bike.
The frame has to be strong enough to handle the forces generated by the powerful motor and when riding off road across rugged terrain. It also has to be able to carry and pull a tremendous amount of weight while being light enough to be transported easily.
Make sure the load capacity or weight limit of the electric dirt bike can handle your body weight plus your hunting gear and the rest of your cargo. Knowing the maximum weight capacity of your bike is important because exceeding the weight limit might severely damage the motor which is a scenario you want to avoid.
Often, a big bike has more load capacity but there are exceptions.
Many of the best electric bikes come with a rear rack to allow you to carry more gear and even bulkier items on your ride. Often, the bike rack is included in the base price. However, sometimes you need to add the rear rack to your order for an additional charge, so it’s worth paying attention to that.
The dimensions of the electric hunting bike are also important and need to match or be suitable for the rider’s dimensions. Know your body height and leg length and follow manufacturers’ recommendations to find a comfortable electric hunting bike that you’ll enjoy riding for a very long time to come.
The Tires Of Hunting Ebikes
Image: ©Bakcou
Most electric hunting bikes are fat tire bikes.
Fat tires offer more grip and stability when riding off-road compared to regular tires. They enable the electric bike to perform well on many types of surfaces and rugged terrain.
Due to their cushioning effect fat tires also contribute to a smoother riding experience.
However, fat tires are not the only option. Electric dirt bikes often feature motorcycle tires that also offer great grip and maneuverability on different terrains.
Some of the best electric hunting bikes even offer puncture resistant tires or at least fat tires made from thick enough rubber to withstand minor punctures.
How Reliable Is An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting
One of the big advantages of electric hunting bikes is their reliability. The electric motor is known to rarely break down and to be very easy to maintain. With proper care, an electric bike can be your best friend for 10 years or longer.
However, just like any other man-made mode of transportation, parts that are objected to normal wear and tear such as the brake pads or tires need to be monitored and if necessary replaced when needed.
General Usability Or Manageability
Image: ©Bakcou
Different types of electric bikes require different initial learning curves.
If you’re already familiar with riding bicycles or maybe even mountain bikes you should have no problems getting on an electric bike.
However, if you’re a complete beginner I’d recommend an electric hunting bike with a rear hub motor to get you started. Once you’re familiar with it you can consider a hunting ebike with a mid drive motor. After that, you might consider even more powerful ultra mid drive or dual hub motors.
Rear hub motors are more forgiving and easier to handle while a mid drive bike requires the hunter to be on top of his or her game at all times to avoid damage to the bike.
Hub motors are good for riding across flat land while the other motor types are usually better for climbing steep hills.
Most bikes have a pedal assist function while some also include a walk assist mode.
The former lets you save on battery power and often lets you pedal your bike should the motor stop working, e.g. when the battery is empty.
The walk assist mode is very useful when you encounter challenging terrain and you prefer to walk with your bike.
Riding ebikes should be fun. Therefore, you should also consider these questions when making your selection:
- How easy or difficult is the electric dirt bike to handle?
- What is the ride experience like and how comfortable is the e-bike to ride?
- How good are the suspensions? Do they provide a smooth ride?
- How balanced does it feel?
The Manoeuvrability
Here are a few questions you might want to ask yourself during your selection process:
- How agile is the electric dirt bike, especially on a narrow and winding path or down some tight trails?
- How easy is it to handle and maneuver on a straight path or around some tight corner?
- Does it allow for a comfortable ride even through harsh terrain and when carrying a heavy load?
How To Transport Your Electric Hunting Bike
Image: ©Outdoor Zone
If you want to bring your electric dirt bike on many hunting trips (and you probably will) that process should be easy and simple.
The heavier and chunkier your electric dirt bike is the more difficult and cumbersome its transportation to your preferred hunting grounds.
So, you should pay attention to the overall weight of your electric bike as well as its dimensions.
The Safety Of Your Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting
Safety is, of course, an important aspect when it comes to hunting.
This includes the safety of the ride, and the safety of the rider but it also includes things like theft protection as well as.
Different electric bikes have different types of brakes such as mechanical disc brakes or hydraulic brakes. Both are fine but I prefer hydraulic brakes as they usually require less maintenance.
Regenerative braking is often a topic of discussion among electric bike enthusiasts but for me, the technology is not well enough developed yet to make a meaningful contribution to any hunting trip. As a result, I prefer electric bikes without regenerative braking at this point.
Lighting is also an important safety feature but you can always equip your electric hunting bike with additional lights at any time, so it’s not a differentiating factor in my opinion.
Guarantees
This one is self-explanatory, isn’t it?
What guarantees does the manufacturer provide for the electric bicycle and/or some of its components?
The Price Of An Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting
The price is an important factor but so is the price-performance relation, i.e. the value for money.
Is The Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting eBike Law Compliant?
Image: ©Outdoor Zone
Depending on the jurisdiction where you want to use your new electric dirt bike for hunting or riding on dirt trails, different rules might apply.
Ebike laws are developing and sometimes changing quite quickly with more and more trails and paths becoming available to eBike riders. However, you should always inform yourself upfront about the legal requirements in your area.
This includes the very important question, on which types of trails and paths you can ride your electric dirt bike for hunting legally depending on whether your bike is classified as a bicycle or as a motorized vehicle.
This also includes questions like:
- Is the electric dirt bike street legal and does it require licensing or insurance etc.?
- How about helmet and safety vest requirements or age restrictions?
- What regulations does the Bureau of Land Management have for electric bikes?
Upgradability And Customization Options
While I’d recommend you start with the stock model to gain some experience first it is good to know what upgrades you could make further down the road (pun intended).
Knowing this before you commit gives you extra flexibility once you’re more familiar with and more experienced in using an electric dirt bike for hunting.
The Aesthetics Of The Best Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting
When buying an electric dirt bike, you obviously have certain expectations regarding the look and feel of the bike, right?
Electric or not, a dirt bike has to look cool.
Other Bells And Whistles
You might want to consider any other features that you get for your money that I haven’t included above. The more accessories that are included in the base price the lower your overall investment will be.
Overall Customer Experience With The Best Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting
Deciding on and purchasing a great electric dirt bike for hunting is one thing.
However, you also want to have peace of mind that your purchase is backed by a professional team that supports you every step of the way.
Not all electric bikes are manufactured in the United States so it’s worth inquiring about the dealer support structure should there be any issue after your purchase.

Delfast developed this electric bike not specifically as a hunter’s e-bike but rather as an outstanding and world-leading performance-driven electric dirt bike that outperforms in many different use cases.
And, they succeeded.
Here are just a few examples of use cases that demonstrate the superior performance of Delfast electric bikes.
- More and more police departments are using Delfast e-bikes to upgrade their patrol vehicles.
- Even the Ukrainian military uses Delfast electric bikes with NLAW rockets to take out Russian tanks.

These examples showcase the superior quality and performance of Delfast electric bikes in many different tough and rough environments.
The Delfast Top 3.0i is an extremely versatile electric bike that’s a true workhorse characterized by superior strength, power, and durability which is part of the reason why it’s the hunter’s perfect companion providing you with stealthy mobility to get you and your hunting gear to and from your deer blind or tree stand undetected.
The Delfast Top 3.0i has a load capacity of 298 pounds, more than enough to carry a rider of, for example, 200 pounds plus 30 – 50 pounds of gear. It also gives peace of mind knowing that you can load up your Delfast e-bike without having to worry about damaging or harming the system.
What’s more, the Delfast Top 3.0i can easily be customized to fit your specific hunting needs and we look at some of the very useful accessories further down in this post.
You’ll Enjoy A Performance That’s Second To None
At the heart of every electric hunting bike is the engine, i.e. the motor and the battery. They’re what gives the eBike its bite, its speed, its range, and its pulling power.
The battery and the motor are a big reason why we consider the Delfast Top 3.0i the best electric dirt bike for hunting. It’s pure power and strength.
Image: ©Electric Vehicle Channel
With a 72V 60A (4,320 W) controller and a 72V 48Ah (3,456 Wh) battery (yes, you read that right: this battery is gigantic which is fantastic), you have a true workhorse at your disposal.
Compare that to many other e-bikes that come with a 400-500 Wh battery, or less. Even for DIY setups, you’d have problems finding an off-the-shelf battery with more than 1000 Wh. This electric bike comes with 3000 Wh, which is absolutely awesome, isn’t it?
This powerful battery comes with its own battery management system which provides greater current flow.
Image: ©Electric Vehicle Channel
The rear hub motor is capable of producing up to 14000 watts of power and accelerating 3000W, withstanding its peak load of 6000W (in ideal conditions). This rear hub, back wheel drive beast can climb hills, carry a heavy load and reach a top speed that other bikes can only dream of.
While the eBike controller is secured in a protective casing, the carbon belt drive transmission delivers optimal performance.
This setup delivers a peak torque of 182 Nm and an incredibly high maximum speed of 50 mph (80 kph).
I can’t think of many scenarios where you might need to get to or from your deer blind that quickly but it just provides extra peace of mind knowing that you can, should things suddenly change and you find yourself in a tight spot with the need for extra speed.
Under ideal conditions, the Delfast Top 3.0 electric bike has been shown to cover a distance of 321 km (about 200 miles) on a single charge.
However, that test was done riding the bike at an average speed of 15.7 mph probably with a very light rider. When you’re going full-throttle or when you’re carrying a lot of heavy stuff you might see a sudden voltage sag and you should expect your maximum range at maximum speed to be more like 40 miles on a single charge (which compared to other electric hunting bikes is still fantastic).
So, depending on your average speed and the weight you’re carrying expect your maximum range to be somewhere between 40 – 200 miles.
This is about five times more range than most e-bikes can offer and probably more than enough range for the average hunting trip but it’s just good to know that you have that capacity to get you back home safely should the need suddenly arise, isn’t it?
The battery is guaranteed for up to 500 charging cycles which gives you a minimum of an estimated 100,000 miles of awesomeness. However, the battery might actually last up to 3000 cycles which is an absolutely incredible number.
Image: ©Electric Vehicle Channel
This electric dirt bike for hunting comes with 3 different speed modes for you to choose from depending on your needs at the time.
- Speed mode 1 “Limited”: 750 W, 15 mph max

- Speed mode 3 “Unlimited”: 3000 W, 50 mph
The Delfast Top 3.0 eBike also has 3 different driving modes giving you a great amount of control:
- Driving mode 1: Pedal Only
- Driving mode 2: Pedal Assist
- Driving mode 3: Full-throttle
Depending on your location and jurisdiction, the Delfast Top 3.0 eBike is being shipped to you as a street-legal Class 2 electric bike with a validation sticker.
However, to be considered a Class 2 e-bike, you must ride it in Limited or Eco Mode and put it into Throttle Driving Mode.

With its powerful pedal-assist mode, you can easily handle any hilly or mountain-like terrain giving the Delfast high cross-country ability regardless of whether you’re on a hunting trip or just hitting a dirt trail for fun.
Image: ©Electric Vehicle Channel
The Delfast Top 3.0i comes with standard moto tires which handle well on pavement and off-road terrains. However, you might want to choose the optional Dirtcross tires that are superior on trails and for pure off-road riding.
Image: ©Electric Vehicle Channel
What’s more, the Top 3.0 is just as comfortable and reliable when commuting or traveling around the city.
When shipped, the e-bike is set to power up to 750 W and travel up to 20 mph. If you want to take it off road, and off paved city streets, you can unleash its full power in “Unlimited Mode”.

Its great aerodynamic design is complemented by a lot of attention to detail.

The high front fork suspension, for example, allows for sufficient standing height complemented by the 2 stylish mirrors on the handlebars.
The latest Delfast Top 3.0i eBike is upgraded with a KKE front fork, with a 203 mm stroke, which gives you the sense of a true motorcycle ride.
Image: ©Electric Vehicle Channel
In addition, even the high front fender and the over-the-wheel rear fender complete the classic dirt bike style and look.
Image: ©Electric Vehicle Channel
The standard seat of the Delfast Top 3.0i is good enough for most use cases but when primarily riding off-road you might want to opt for the moto seat which is definitely the more comfortable solution when your hunting trip leads you over rough terrain.

Top of my list and probably the easiest and most straightforward solution are Deflast’s premium side boxes.

Best Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting – What Else You Need To Know
Image: ©Dr. Drones Media
Electric bikes in general and electric dirt bikes for hunting in particular are still a relatively new phenomenon as they’ve only started to grow in popularity over the last few years and legislation is also still in its infancy.
In some states, electric bikes are regulated as bicycles while other states regard them as motorized vehicles. Many laws can be quite vague and you should always familiarize yourself with the laws of the specific area where you’re planning to use the Delfast Top 3.0i.
In some areas, for example, no e-bike usage is allowed, period. And you don’t want to spend your money only to end up having problems with law enforcement, right?
In some jurisdictions, you can only use hunting ebikes with motors up to 750 W on public land. Many jurisdictions also limit electric bikes to top speeds of 20 mph with pedal-assist, or 28 mph without pedal assist.
In those jurisdictions, you would have to ride the Delfast Top 3.0i only in Speed Mode 1 “Limited” (750 W, 15 mph max) or Speed Mode 2 “Eco” (750 W, 20 mph).
Furthermore, the Delfast Top 3.0i is not a lite bike. With a weight of around 150 pounds, it’s quite heavy to lift in and out of your truck.
But that’s not the only issue.
Some laws protect trails from bikes that weigh more than 100 pounds so it’s good to figure out the rules in the area where you want to hunt, isn’t it?

Best Electric Dirt Bike For Hunting – In Summary
