QuietKat Ranger Review: How Well Does This Electric Hunting Bike Perform In The Wilderness?
Image: ©Quietkat
The QuietKat Ranger is an awesome premium electric hunting bike that’s a great performer in the outdoors and in the more remote backcountry.
Think of an electric bike as an “assisted bike”, meaning you’re pedaling but with the support of a powerful motor.
But how does the QuietKat Ranger hunting ebike perform in the hunting environment?
Does it give the hunter a true edge to become slightly more successful? Does it make the overall hunting experience a little bit easier?
Let’s dig into the nuts and bolts in this QuietKat Ranger review and find out.
QuietKat Ranger Review: How Well Does It Deal With Hills?
If you’re looking for an edge, is the QuietKat Ranger the best electric hunting bike for you?
When put through its paces the QuietKat Ranger proved itself to be a good hill climber, dealing very well even with steep hills.
The Ranger comes with 2 different motor options, but even with the smaller motor the QuietKat Ranger off-road electric bike tackled some steep 30-degree climbs very well.
It’s probably one of the reasons why the Ranger is also very popular among mountain bikes enthusiasts.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Motor
That mountain climbing capability is no surprise considering the Quietkat Ranger 750 fat tire electric mountain bike features a very capable 750 W hub drive motor. If that’s not enough for you, you can choose the 1000 W hub motor for even more power and strength.
This motor system powers the rear wheel directly, which means you can ride your Ranger home even in the unlikely event of a broken chain. A very comforting thought not just for you but also for your loved ones, isn’t it?
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Brakes
While a powerful motor is needed to effortlessly climb hills, equally powerful brakes are needed to descend from those hills in a calm and controlled manner afterward.
The Ranger is equipped with Tektro two-piston mechanical disc brakes combined with large 203mm rotors. I prefer hydraulic brakes but these Tektro mechanical disc brakes have a good bite and more than enough stopping power to give you the confidence and ability to tackle even more challenging terrain without breaking a sweat.
QuietKat Ranger Review: How Well Does It Ride Off-Road?
Image: ©Quietkat
Apart from being a good hill climber, the QuietKat Ranger e bike is designed specifically for off-road usage. That’s what it’s built for and that’s what it’s really good at.
It allows you to ride across rough and rugged terrain and cover a lot of ground with very little effort.
When tested in the wilderness, the QuietKat Ranger has shown itself to be a very well made hunting ebike that provides an excellent ride quality even off-road.
There were no groans or squeaks and the ebike moved very quietly to its destination.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Tires
It’s equipped with either 24’’ x 4’’ (small frame size) or 26’’ x 4.5’’ (medium and large frame size) fat tires that provide great comfort and make you feel very stable even when riding off-road.
These wide tires give excellent traction and help with shock absorption. Depending on what type of terrain you’re riding on you can reduce the air pressure of these large tires to further increase your comfort and improve your ride quality.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Suspension
The QuietKat Ranger electric bike is equipped with a strong 100mm Mozo Coil Suspension fork with 100 mm of travel.
It’s a hardtail, meaning there’s no suspension at the rear wheel. However, if you’re looking for a full suspension hunting ebike check out my review of the Best Electric Hunting Bike for more options.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Seat
Image: ©The Way We Hunt
For extra comfort, you can get a seat upgrade, i.e. a seat with springs that’ll improve the comfort of your ride.
I’d strongly recommend upgrading to the NCX suspension seat especially if you intend or anticipate riding over tough and rugged terrain or challenging trails regularly.

I’d personally prefer more rear suspension but with the upgraded seat it’s definitely much better.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Gearing
The QuietKat Ranger hunting ebike has a 7-speed Shimano manual derailleur with mechanical gears.
The combination of mechanical gears and direct motor adjustments through the LCD screen display allowed for the tackling of any terrain encountered.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About Carrying Weapons
Image: ©Quietkat
You might be reading this QuietKat Ranger review because you’re skeptical whether riding across rugged terrain while hauling your rifles with a rifle holder attached to the handlebar would affect the aim of your weapons.
Ryan from “The Way We Hunt” tested this by hauling a Steiner S35 Night Hunter across some tough terrain on his QuietKat Ranger 1000 W at 20 mph.
Shooting at a steel target set up at 100 yards before and after the ride, he found that carrying your rifle while riding off-road does not affect the optics or the aim of the rifle, or in his words “the zero was still on afterward”.
He found that the Kolpin Weapons mount on top of his Quietkat Ranger coupled with the front suspension after riding about 4 miles, didn’t knock off the aim of the rifle
“I was afraid of losing zero after going over some very rough terrain but it turned out there was no issue at all. Probably due to fat tires and front fork suspension. It holds a zero with the rifle.”
QuietKat Ranger Review: How Stealthy Is It?
The QuietKat Ranger electric hunting bike itself emits no odors, smell, or any other type of scent.
It moves quietly and carries the hunter and the gear almost effortlessly to their destination.
The hunter produces less sweat and body odors and since there’s no direct contact with the ground also leaves behind less of a scent trail that could alert or spook any animals.
As Ryan from “The Way We Hunt” puts it:
“I can literally hop on this at the gate, ride it all the way to stand, or ride it all the way through hog country scanning for hogs, they don’t hear you, they don’t smell you unless you’re just not playing the wind right”
“It allows me to carry all my gear to the deer stand, that includes a hang-on stand, or a ladder stand. I can just fold it up and put it on the trailer, ride it in on the bike, then set it up and I’m done, no odor and completely silent.”
QuietKat Ranger Review: How Much Load Can It Carry?
Image: ©Quietkat edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com
The QuietKat Ranger hunting ebike has a total load capacity of 325 lbs (including the rider’s weight).
That’s plenty and more or less the same as most premium electric hunting bikes that all can carry between 300 – 350 lbs of weight.
The Ranger also comes with an integrated cargo rack. This heavy duty bike rack has a load capacity of 100 lbs allowing riders to haul even more cargo if needed.
By adding a trailer to your electric hunting bike you can haul even more weight but keep in mind the more weight you’re carrying or towing the more battery you’re using which in turn will affect your range.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Trailers
Image: ©Quietkat
QuietKat offers a very compact game trailer that can easily be attached to the Ranger to recover your hunt.
It measures 47 by 18 inches and has an adjustable tilting bed.
It’s an optional, but in my opinion very handy add-on you might want to consider.
Just imagine how satisfying it will be if you can recover your game in ONE single trip instead of cutting it and carrying it over several trips.
QuietKat Ranger Review: What Range Does It Offer?
Image: ©Quietkat
For a hunter, all the above-mentioned capabilities are important but so is “range” which is why we pay special attention to the battery in this QuietKat Ranger review.
Range depends on many different factors but at its core is battery power.
QuietKat Ranger 750 And 1000 Review: How About The Battery
Image: ©Quietkat edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com
The QuietKat Ranger electric hunting bike comes equipped with a better battery integrated into the frame and made up of premium Panasonic lithium cells.
It’s a powerful battery with 48 V and 12.8 Ah that weighs an impressive 10 lbs and produces a total of 614 Wh.
That should give you a theoretical range of 30 miles on a single battery charge without any pedaling.
Depending on how you’re riding your Ranger hunting ebike you can probably expect about 20-25 maybe even 30 miles but with some pedal assistance.
That’s probably more than enough for your average hunting trip to and from your deer stand.
But when you’re out on that big western hunt and you need to go 30 miles back in or you’re hunting over several days, staying overnight at camp you need the ability to charge your battery again.
Luckily, the Ranger by QuietKat can be recharged on a standard or solar charger with the latter needing about 6-8 hours giving you time to sleep.
With the Pathfinder Rapid Charger, you can even cut this time in half and fully charge the battery within 3-6 hours.
You might even consider a battery upgrade by bringing a second battery along to effectively double your range.
So, what battery life can you expect? According to QuietKat, their lithium batteries are certified as “1,000 cycles” batteries. In other words, you can expect to discharge and recharge your battery 1,000 times on average before you need to replace it.
If you ride 20 – 25 miles on a single battery charge, 1,000 cycles would mean a battery life of approximately 20,000 – 25,000 miles. If you were to go hunting with your Ranger every 3-4 days throughout the year, you would probably ride about 2,000 miles per year. In this case, the battery life would be 10 – 12 years, which is pretty sweet, isn’t it?
QuietKat Ranger Review: What Is Its Top Speed?
Image: ©Quietkat edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com
The QuietKat Ranger is not a racing machine but rather a purposely designed premium electric hunting bike.
As mentioned earlier, you can choose between a 750 W and a 1000 W motor.
The 750 W model is restricted to a top speed of 20 mph while the 1000 W machine is “unrestricted”.
So, how fast can you go with it?
When researching this question for this QuietKat Ranger review I found that the true answer is “that depends”.
Max speed, just like the range, depends on a heck of a lot of different factors but suffice it to say that while the 750W model is capped at 20 mph, the 1000W “unrestricted” model can go much faster than that.
To give you enough torque and grip even at lower speeds, the Ranger features 5 levels of pedal assist and a “throttle-only” mode.
Combine that with the 7-gear system and you have ample ability to get the right amount of power from your motor when you need it.
QuietKat Ranger Review: How To Transport Your Electric Hunting Bike?
Image: ©Quietkat edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com
What’s great about the Ranger is that QuietKat made transportation to and from your drop-off point very easy and convenient.
Despite its weight of about 65 lbs (plus 10 lbs for the battery), it’s quite easy to load and unload this hunting ebike thanks to a special truck trailer.
The trailer folds right out of your way so you can still lower the tailgate of your truck.
QuietKat Ranger Review: Other Useful Upgrades And Addons
Image: ©Quietkat
Unfortunately, the Ranger does not come equipped with sufficient lighting.
It’s understandable since it’s designed as a hunting ebike but you might want to take your pride possession to town (if it’s legal in your jurisdiction).
In that case, I’d recommend you purchase the add-on headlight and small tail light for riding at night time.
QuietKat ebikes can actually be customised with different accessory kits depending on what you intend to use your Ranger electric bike for.
There’s the hunter’s kit which is best for us hunters, but there’s also the angler’s kit if you plan to go fishing and the overland kit if you want to get away from urban environments and off paved roads to explore the great outdoors with your Ranger.
QuietKat Ranger Review: What Sizes Are Available?
Image: ©Quietkat edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com
The QuietKat Ranger electric bike comes in 3 different sizes:
- Small (15.5’’),
- Medium (17’’) and
- Large (19’’).
The Ranger’s frame has a stand-over height of
- 26.5’’ (Small),
- 29.5’’ (Medium) and
- 30.5’’ (Large).
QuietKat Ranger Review: Legal And Financial Aspects
Image: ©Electric-Hunting-Bike.com
I included legal and financial aspects in this QuietKat Ranger review because I think they’re just as important as overall hunting performance.
QuietKat Ranger Review: Does It Comply With eBike Laws?
The 750 W Ranger can be classified as a Class 2 ebike having a throttle and a top speed of 20 mph.
The 1000 W Ranger is probably not classified as an electric bicycle in most jurisdictions.
If you want to use your Ranger electric hunting bike on roads or areas only accessible for bicycles the 750 W motor is your better option.
This is not legal advice. Always contact a legal professional if in doubt.
QuietKat Ranger Review: What Warranty Will You Get?
QuietKat offers a 1-year warranty on all components and the frame even comes with a lifetime warranty.
QuietKat Ranger Review: What Money Back Guarantee Will You Get?
QuietKat allows you to test ride your new Ranger electric hunting bike for up to 30 Days and up to 10 miles.
They call it their 30-Day-Risk-Free Trial (30 DAY, 10 MILE MAX).
QuietKat Ranger Review: What Financing Options Are Available?
If you prefer to pay for your new QuietKat Ranger hunting ebike in installments QuietKat has teamed up with Affirm and PayPal offering some great financing options.
Some other online retailers also offer similar financing options.
QuietKat Ranger Review: What I Like The Most
Image: ©Quietkat
- Comes in 2 versions 750 W and 1000 W
- Comes in 3 different frame sizes to accommodate hunters of different sizes
- Very easy to operate
- Great hill climber
- Great to carry your rifle without losing the zero
- Easy to transport thanks to a special truck trailer
QuietKat Ranger Review: What I Like The Least
- Learning curve
- Like many similar electric hunting bikes it’s a little bit heavier than your average electric bikes
- I wish the power would come on softer because if you’re in the middle of a turn (especially on loose dirt) and you start pedaling, the pedal assist kicks right in so that’s definitely something you need to get used to as a new rider. Takes about 1 revolution of the pedals for the motor to kick in and if you’re in the middle of turning and you’ve set it to pedal assist 4 or 5 – hang on.
- I’d personally prefer more rear suspension but with the upgraded seat it’s definitely much better.
- Doesn’t come with headlights or a tail light
QuietKat Ranger Review: My Conclusion
Image: ©Quietkat
I hope you found this QuietKat Ranger Review helpful in discovering what exactly this amazing electric hunting bike brings to the hunting table.
The 750 W and 1000 W electric bikes are top-of-the-line machines that offer an array of benefits to the avid hunter.
Traverse rugged terrain or haul large loads across rolling hills with ease. Pedal assistance makes it easy to climb difficult inclines, and the powerful brakes provide plenty of stopping power for those steeper descents.
With three different frame sizes, the Ranger is the perfect companion to accommodate both small and tall riders while providing a comfortable ride.
The QuietKat Ranger 750 and 1000 W e bikes are designed with the hunter’s needs in mind and powerful motors to give you great confidence on your next hunting adventure.
Please let me know if I missed any important aspect so that I can further improve this QuietKat Ranger Review to help more hunters along the way.
Happy Riding
