In this section, I’ll be explaining a few of the major differences between a regular ebike and an electric bike for hunting so that you know what to look for.

Both types of bikes are mobility devices that are designed to get you from point A to point B.

But an electric hunting bike was designed and developed to get you from point A to point B while you’re carrying a few dozen or even hundred pounds of weight in hunting gear or (if you’re lucky) in hunt and while you’re moving from point A to point B through wet and muddy ground, across frozen land, up some steep hills, maneuvering down some frightening descents or traveling through densely wooded areas that an ATV or UTV cannot access …

… and to do so reliably, quietly and without giving your location away or spooking your prey.

We’ll look at the technical details and design features that make this incredible ride possible and that you should pay special attention to when buying the best electric hunting bike for your specific and unique hunting needs and requirements.

An eBike Purposely Build For Hunting

At the core of every hunting e-bike is a powerful engine. It’s the most expensive part of every electric bike and a large contributor to its strength and ability. It’s also the part of your bike you should pay the most attention to.

Around the motor, you have a strong and durable frame that’s specifically designed to handle the raw power of the engine as well as provide tremendous load capacity.

At the same time, you’ll find most frames being made from lightweight Aluminum Alloy to keep your bike lite enough to carry it or put it on the back of your truck for easy transportation.

Extra front suspension makes for a smooth ride through these tough conditions.

Fat tires give additional grip and balance and also act to further cushion your ride over rugged terrain.

A solid bike rack (usually a rear rack) to carry your hunting gear across rough terrain and steep hills completes the picture.

Let’s take a closer look at all the different components that make up a great electric hunting bike.

The Motor

Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor

Image: ©Bakcou

What’s special about the motor of an electric hunting bike? To put it simply, electric bikes for hunting usually have the most powerful electric motors with the most amount of torque and the highest peak power output.

What Is Torque?

Torque is kind of like the strength of the motor. Or to say it more scientifically, torque measures the force that makes an object rotate about an axis.

When you’re using your hand to push a cardboard box across the floor you’re using some force to accelerate and move it. When you’re applying the same force to a wheel that subsequently starts spinning we call that force “torque”. The more “torque” you have the faster the wheel will spin.

Now imagine that somebody else is using their hand trying to stop the wheel from spinning. You now must apply more torque to overcome that resistance and keep the wheel spinning.

On electric bikes you’re not using your hand to spin the wheel, instead, you’re letting the motor do that work for you. The best electric bikes have enough torque to handle riding on difficult terrain or up steep hills while also hauling more weight.

Wattage And Motor Output

The “power” of electric bikes is measured or expressed in Watts. It’s an expression of the potential power the electric motor can generate.

As a general rule and provided that all parts of the bike work well together, a motor with a higher wattage can convert more energy into propulsion per time.

As a result and everything else being equal, an electric bike with a higher wattage motor can handle challenging terrains such as muddy grounds or steeper hills, better than an electric bike with a motor that has less wattage.

Continuous Wattage And Peak Wattage

You should pay particular attention to the motor’s continuous wattage as well as its peak wattage. The latter is especially important when you want to climb steeper hills.

Think of continuous wattage as the optimum performance level which you can use over a long period (for example when riding across flat and easy terrain) and the peak wattage as the maximum performance level which you only want to use temporarily for a short period, for example, to climb a hill.

If you anticipate using your hunting electric bike for a lot of hill climbing I’d definitely recommend looking for electric bikes with at least 1000 W (the higher the better) peak output.

However, as we will see in a moment, other factors such as motor placement and how the motor converts its power into mechanical movement also have a significant influence on the hunting bike’s overall performance.

Motor Placement (Hub, Mid, Ultra Mid, AWD)

Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Placement

Image: ©Electric Hunting Bike

When searching for the perfect electric hunting bike you might notice that there are different types of motors you can choose between.

Currently, you can buy a hunting ebike with one of these four different motor setups:

  • Hub Motors
  • Mid Drive Motor
  • Ultra Mid-Drive Motor
  • All Wheel Drive or Dual Hub Motors.

What are the pros and cons of these different motor placements? Keep on reading to find out.

Hub Motor

A hub motor is an electric motor that’s located inside the center of either the front or the back wheel of the bike. Rear hub motors are most common and they work by rotating the back wheel itself. In other words, the chain and the gearing system of the bike work completely independently from the hub motor.

Hub motors are easier and cheaper to build but are not as good at hill climbing as mid drive motors.

Mid Drive Motor

A mid drive motor is located in the “middle” of the bike, i.e. between the cranks, which is why it’s sometimes also called a crank-drive motor. A mid drive motor actually rotates the chainring and consequently the chain itself to spin the back wheel.

Mid drive motors work with sensors to determine how much power is required by the rider at any given moment. Therefore, they provide a more natural feeling riding experience.

Mid drive motors are usually better hill climbers but they are also more difficult and expensive to build.

Ultra Mid Drive Motors

Ultra mid drive motors are a further development of mid drive motors because they have everything a regular mid drive motor has plus an additional few sensors.

They’re considered even more powerful and capable hill climbers than a regular mid drive bike. However, this performance also comes with a higher price tag.

All Wheel Drive Dual Hub Motors

An all-wheel electric hunting bike has a hub drive motor that’s located in the center of the front wheel and a second hub drive motor that’s located in the center of the rear wheel.

The rider can choose, whether to use only one or both motors together depending on the terrain. This gives the bike some great off-road capabilities.

Of course, having 2 motors instead of one, an all-wheel hunting electric bike also has two batteries instead of one. This, obviously, affects the overall price as well.

The Battery

Best Hunting eBike Battery

Image: ©Electric Revolution

The battery of your electric hunting bike plays an important role within the overall setup. It’s obviously the power source for the motor and as such has an impact on the overall performance capabilities of your hunting bike.

There’s no point in having a very powerful motor if the battery is too weak to support it.

The most important aspect to consider in terms of battery life is the wattage hours (Wh) of the battery. Wh can be calculated by multiplying the battery’s voltage (V) by the amp hours (Ah).

A battery with 48 V and 14 Ah has 48 x 14 = 672 Wh.

For the average person, this number on its own is kind of useless. But you can use it to compare the capabilities of different batteries.

As a general rule of thumb, with everything else being equal, the higher the Wh of a battery, the greater the range you can travel on a single battery charge.

Assuming that 1 mile traveled on your bike will consume 20 Wh, the above battery gives you a theoretical range of 33.6 miles.

Compare that with a battery that has 48 V and 10 Ah (48 x 10 = 480 Wh) which gives you a theoretical range of 480 / 20 = 24 miles.

For me, this is the most useful number when it comes to evaluating different batteries on different hunting electric bikes.

Voltage (V) and Amp Hours (Ah) of the battery are also important but considering that all top rated electric hunting bikes on this list have batteries with 48 V (except for the hunting ebikes from Rungu which have batteries with 52 V) these batteries only differ in their Ah which we already included when using Wh as a selection criterion.

The Frame

Best e-Bike For Hunting Frame

Image: ©Electric Hunting Bike

Because electric hunting bikes have significantly stronger motors they also need significantly stronger frames that can handle the forces produced by the engine. In fact, many of the best hunting electric bikes are built around their motor.

These frames are exceptionally strong to provide enough load capacity for all your hunting gear as well.

They are built to withstand rugged terrain while at the same time being lightweight enough to make transportation easy and convenient.

Most popular electric hunting bikes have frames that are made from high quality Aluminum Alloy. They are very resilient but you can easily lift them onto the bed of your truck to transport them.

The Tires

Since electric hunting bikes were developed to specifically accommodate the hunters’ needs they need to have a lot of grip and traction when used off-road in mud or loose sand or snow. They also have to be able to climb steep hills and tackle equally steep descents.

Most bikes are equipped with fat tires.

Fat tires contribute to a smooth ride since they provide extra cushioning and the air pressure can be adjusted to make for a comfortable ride across rough terrains.

Often, the fat tires are also puncture resistant tires which is very beneficial in an off-road setting.

Most hunting electric bikes are equipped with fat tires (often 26’’ x 4’’) that give you a wider base and so much more grip compared to regular ebikes.

The Suspension

Another special characteristic of hunting ebikes is very effective front fork suspensions. After all, you don’t want to be shaken around too much when tackling rough terrain, right?

Good suspensions make for a smooth ride so you’ll still have a steady aim after your ride.

The Brakes

Brakes are obviously important on any kind of ebike but due to the stronger motor and the need to tackle steep and intimidating descents a good hunting e-bike also needs powerful brakes.

Many electric bikes for hunting have mechanical disc brakes while some of the best electric bikes even feature hydraulic brakes. This provides for the needed safety but also gives confidence that the bike can be stopped swiftly should the need arise.

The Load Capacity

When going hunting it’s not unusual to carry 40 or more pounds of hunting gear with you. So you need an ebike that can handle not just your body weight but also all that extra gear you want to bring along.

Furthermore, should you be lucky, you need a reliable partner to recover your hunt which, if you’re hunting big game, can be substantial.

Electric hunting bikes are true workhorses and are designed to do just that. Often they have a load capacity of up to 300 lbs (or more) and are equipped with a rear rack and the ability to pull a trailer.

The Paint

Of course, one of the main requirements of any hunting e-bike is the ability to stay in stealth mode for as long as possible and not give away your location or even spook the animals you’re scouting.

While most manufacturers offer more than one paint, all colors are usually in the camouflage range to avoid early detection when in the backcountry.

What are the benefits of an electric hunting bike and what problems does it solve? What does it bring to the table and why should you use one? What can an electric bike do for you compared to walking, regular bikes, ATVs, or UTVs?

The best electric bikes for hunting can solve many of the problems a hunter is facing but most importantly they can help you feel absolutely amazing. Why is that?

In this section, we’ll look at some of the benefits that only an electric hunting bike can give you.

But first, let me clarify that I don’t see a hunting electric bike as an alternative to an ATV or UTV. Instead, I see it as complementary. Each mode of transportation offers some capabilities that the others don’t.

An Electric Hunting Bike Can Increase Your Chances Of Hunting Success

Electric Hunting Bikes Benefits

Image: ©QuietKat

Now you might be wondering how an electric hunting bike might increase your chances of hunting success. You might think it should be down to the hunting ability of the individual hunter, right? You might even consider using an eBike as “cheating” or an “unfair advantage”.

Maybe you think that the hardship of walking on foot for miles and hours is part of the price to pay to “earn” the right to hunt and if successful claim your piece of hunting history. It’s what separates the men from the boys, isn’t it?

But the truth is that that’s a very limiting view of things.

After all, when hunters first started using binoculars wasn’t that an unfair advantage over those hunters that at the time were still relying only on their eyesight?

And when rifles were first introduced wasn’t that an unfair advantage over those hunters still hunting with bow and arrow?

Does the hunt only count when the animal was killed with one’s own bare hands? Where do you draw the line?

At the end of the day, we as humans tend to consider what we experience when we first start doing something as the “baseline” against which we compare everything new.

But that baseline was already different from the baseline of the previous generation and it will be different from the baseline of the next generation.

Let’s have a closer look at some of the “unfair” advantages an electric hunting bike can give you.

Hunting Success With An Electric Bike Vs Hunting On Foot

Electric Hunting Bike Vs Hunting On Foot

Image: ©Bakcou

Anything you do on foot takes longer than when you’re using a mobility device, doesn’t it?

  • Hunting on foot means walking for miles just to get from your drop off point to your deer stand or your favorite hunting grounds.
  • Hunting on foot makes checking your trail cameras daily a real challenge.
An Electric Bike Lets You Spend More Time Hunting

An electric bike allows you to do these things in a fraction of the time it takes you on foot. That means you can spend more time doing what you love: actually hunting. And the more time you have to scout and look out for game the greater your chances of success.

If you’re hunting elk, for example, following a fast moving herd suddenly becomes more achievable while keeping your presence and location unknown to your prey. This in turn also greatly enhances your chances of success, doesn’t it?

An Electric Bike Gives You Access To More Remote Hunting Areas

Best Hunting eBike For Remote Areas

Image: ©Compact Power

There’s only so much territory you can cover by foot. With an eBike for hunting you can travel a much greater distance and explore those areas that you couldn’t get to before.

Those are probably more untouched areas with less competition and most likely more wildlife which again translates into greater chances of hunting success.

Your radius of operation grows tremendously once you started using an electric hunting bike to get you to where you want to go. Traveling to and from your campsite or your drop off point you can now cover a wider area when scouting for animals.

An Electric Hunting Bike Gets You Closer To Your Prey Than Ever Before

Best Electric Hunting Bike For Hunting Success

Image: ©QuietKat

Do you remember the last time when you spotted that majestic deer only to see it run away from you because you couldn’t move close enough quickly enough without being noticed?

With an electric bike you can travel without spooking the animal and as a result, you have much better chances of success.

With An Electric Hunting Bike You Sweat Less

Because riding on an electric bike is much less physically demanding than walking on foot you produce less sweat and therefore also less body odor and scent. In other words, by using an electric bike for hunting you make it more difficult for the animal to pick up your scent.

With An Electric Hunting Bike You Produce Less Scent On The Ground

When riding your electric bike your feet have significantly less contact with the ground or the vegetation compared to hunting on foot. Consequently, you are leaving much less of a scent trail behind that could be picked up by the animals and alert them to your presence. An unaware animal is definitely much easier prey than an alerted one, isn’t it?

Hunting Success With An Electric Bike Vs “Human-Powered” Bicycle

Using a regular or “human-powered” bike is another option how some hunters like to get around. It’s probably a more efficient way to move than walking but it has similar drawbacks to hunting on foot.

While you might be able to cover more ground than you can by walking, anybody who has tried riding a bicycle in an off-road environment knows about the agony it can cause when the ground is slightly softer, muddy, or sandy and it becomes extremely difficult to keep pedaling and moving the bike forward. Not to mention trying to climb any kind of meaningful hill.

It’s tiring and you’ll feel exhausted and sweaty if you can make it to your destination at all. So, you have the same drawbacks and challenges that you’re facing when hunting on foot.

An electric hunting bike, on the other hand, can improve your overall hunting success rate drastically, especially on challenging terrain.

Hunting Success With An Electric Bike Vs ATVs / UTVs

Electric Hunting Bikes Vs ATVs UTVs

Image: ©Electric Hunting Bike

Before we dive into this comparison, I would just quickly like to reiterate one more time that I see an electric hunting bike not as a competitor of an ATV or UTV. Each one has its strength and weaknesses and can perform tasks that the other can’t.

For me, adding an eBike to your arsenal of hunting gear fills a gap and thereby enhances your hunting abilities tremendously.

An Electric Hunting Bike Lets You Move Around More Quietly

The Best Electric Bike For Hunting Quietly

This first point I’d like to make is probably quite obvious.

ATVs and UTVs are loud and noisy vehicles due to their combustion engine.

Electric bikes, on the other hand, are almost completely silent, giving you, the hunter a much stealthier way to move around and get closer to your prey. This, of course, translates into a significantly higher chance of a successful ambush.

In addition, in many areas, the animals have learned to associate the sound of an ATV or UTV with potential danger especially when that sound suddenly stops.

This combination is often enough to spook the animals, making it almost impossible for you to hunt them using an ATV or UTV.

An Electric Hunting Bike Produces No Fumes

Best Fat Tire Electric Bike For Hunting Without Fumes

Image: ©LubosHouska ©Visual Generation via canva.com edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com

This second point is also self-explanatory.

Any combustion engine produces fumes that are released into the air. This makes the vehicle easily detectable which is a problem for any hunter who wants to remain in stealth mode.

An eBike, on the other hand, does not produce any fumes or any other scent for that matter. Electric hunting bikes are the perfect hunting companion as they allow you to remain undetected for much longer.

This means you can get closer to the animals than ever before which in turn leads to higher chances of a successful ambush, right?

An Electric Hunting Bike Lets You Get Much Closer To Your Game

As mentioned above, deer and other animals have grown increasingly suspicious of ATVs and UTVs. They have learned over time that the sound of an ATV that approaches and suddenly stops often means danger. As a result, these animals get easily spooked and run away as an ATV is in the area.

At this time, most game do NOT yet connect the presence of an eBike with danger in general as they do with the sounds of ATVs or UTVs. Often they will continue feeding even though a hunter is passing by on an electric bike.

This lack of fear leads to higher chances of a successful hunt.

An Electric Hunting Bike Increases Your Agility

Best Electric Hunting Bike For Increased Agility

Image: ©Bakcou

Due to their size ATVs and UTVs are unable to access certain remote areas, for example, due to dense vegetation such as trees etc. This is where an electric bike for hunting really shines.

With a hunting e-bike you can easily ride even through a dense forest without any problems and access areas that are less frequented by other hunters resulting in more and richer wildlife.

Even smaller problems, like a blocked path or trail, can be easily overcome with an eBike while they might quite literally spell the end of the road for an ATV or UTV.

So, being more agile means having access to more areas where ATVs / UTVs cannot enter resulting in access to better hunting grounds and higher chances of hunting success.

An Electric Hunting Bike Gives You Access To More Hunting Grounds

But apart from physical limitation due to size and weight, there are also those trails that are legally off-limit for ATVs or UTVs but (depending on local laws) accessible to hunting electric bicycles.

Generally speaking, in those jurisdictions where electric bikes are not classified as motorized vehicles they usually have access to the same paths and trails as non-motorized traditional human-powered bicycles. This gives electric hunting bikes a tremendous advantage over ATVs and UTVs.

Using an electric bike, you have access to more areas than you would if you hunted using only an ATV or UTV due to legal restrictions for the latter.

An Electric Hunting Bike Increases Your Ambush Success

Best Hunting eBike For Ambush Success

Stealth mode is of utmost importance when you’re trying to get as close to your prey as possible. However, often speed is also a crucial factor once you’ve spotted an opportunity.

ATVs and UTVs certainly have their advantages and use cases but trying to ambush an animal is definitely not one of them. An electric bike, on the other hand, truly shines under these circumstances.

Imagine you could leave your ATV behind, quickly get your hunting e-bike unloaded, and off you go, silently and swiftly.

An electric hunting bike is purposefully designed and built to get you much closer to the animal than an ATV / UTV ever could. And the closer you can get the higher your chances of a successful ambush, aren’t they?

An Electric Hunting Bike Can Make Your Overall Hunting Experience More Satisfying

Best Electric Bike For Hunting Experience

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

Let’s face it. We love to hunt but that doesn’t mean we are too thrilled with every single aspect of the hunting lifestyle, right?

Using an electric bike for hunting makes those less enjoyable aspects of hunting a more pleasurable experience by taking the physical strain out of them.

Improve Your Hunting Experience With An Electric Bike Vs Hunting On Foot

Hunting with an electric bike has multiple advantages over hunting on foot or using a “human-powered” bicycle through mud, steep, or otherwise difficult terrain.

An Electric Hunting Bike Preserves Your Energy For The Actual Hunt

The less energy you spent traveling from point A to point B the more energy, focus, and concentration you have to spend on the thing you love the most: the actual hunt.

There’s no glory in being the most exhausted or the most drenched, is there? Using tools to make the hunt less physically demanding makes sense to me. After all, that’s exactly what top athletes do, isn’t it?

I would even argue that refusing to utilize tools that are beneficial to your hunting experience shows a wrong and unproductive mindset.

With An Electric Hunting Bike You Don’t Get Tired, Sweaty, And Exhausted Before You Even Started Hunting

We love the strategizing, the scouting, the wait etc. of the hunting process. But do we also love having to carry our pack with 40 lbs of hunting gear on our back for miles and hours through difficult terrain and maybe even in difficult weather conditions?

I for one would prefer not to be drenched in sweat when arriving at the deer stand only to start shivering soon after.

Using an electric bike for hunting is a smart move. It makes the hunting process less physically demanding than walking. That way you can spend your energy hunting not getting to your hunting site.

An Electric Hunting Bike Lets You Haul Out Your Hunt In ONE Single Trip

Haul Out Your Hunt In ONE Trip With The Best Hunting Electric Bikes

Image: ©QuietKat

If you’re a big game hunter you might appreciate the thought of being able to recover your game in ONE single trip and in one piece instead of having to carve it up and haul it out over several agonizing and tiring trips.

Electric bikes for hunting can make this process a breeze even through rough and tough terrain.

But by using an electric bike this process doesn’t just get easier and less physically demanding. Using an e-bike to haul out your hunt in 1 single trip instead of multiple trips also lets you get home earlier after a successful hunt and spend more time with your family and loved ones.

Improve Your Hunting Experience With An Electric Bike Vs ATVs / UTVs

Best Hunting E Bike For Easy Transportation

Image: ©QuietKat

Transporting Your Electric Hunting Bike Is Easy And Hassle-free

While ATVs and UTVs can also be useful hunting tools they’re not easy to bring along.

First, you need to load them onto a trailer before driving to your drop off point where you then have to unload them from the trailer again. After your hunt, when you’re already tired and ready to go home, you have to do the same again only in reverse.

Bringing along your electric hunting bike, however, is extremely easy, effortless, and fast. It makes transportation much easier since no additional trailer is required. Just put your hunting electric bike on the back of your truck and you’re ready to go.

An Electric Hunting Bike Can Make Your Hunting Trip Safer

Best Electric Bike For Hunting Safely

Improve Your Hunting Safety With An Electric Bike Vs Hunting On Foot

No matter how careful we are, accidents do happen. But what if you injure yourself and you’re all alone in the wilderness? You might find yourself in a position where you’re unable to walk or pedal a regular bicycle.

In a situation like this, an electric bike enhances your safety since it can help you get back home in case of injury or other emergencies.

An electric hunting bike can still get you home safely because you don’t need to pedal it. Just use the throttle-only setting to get you out of the backcountry quickly.

Improve Your Hunting Safety With An Electric Bike Vs ATVs / UTVs

An electric hunting bike can also offer additional safety features compared to an ATV or UTV.

A hunting electric bike enhances your safety because it’s generally much less likely to break down and therefore a more reliable hunting partner.

However, even if the motor should break down (which is very unlikely) you can still get home by pedaling the bicycle.

If your ATV or UTV breaks down, on the other hand, and you cannot fix the problem on the spot you have to leave the vehicle behind and walk back on foot. Not to mention you have to return a second time to carry out the repair or tow the vehicle to a garage.

An Electric Hunting Bike Can Give Your Loved Ones Peace Of Mind

Electric Hunting Bikes For Peace Of Mind

Having an electric hunting bike by your side is also extra reassurance for your loved ones that otherwise might worry about your safety. Hunting with an electric bike gives you and your loved ones peace of mind that you have a strong and reliable companion at your side.

This gives you extra protection in case of an injury or emergency and the sound knowledge that you can always use your hunting e bike mechanically in the unlikely event that the motor doesn’t work, for example after an accident.

An Electric Hunting Bike Can Save You Money

Electric Hunting Bikes Are Cheaper

Image: ©nattanan23 via canva.com

A Hunting Electric Bike Is Cheaper To Buy

While buying an electric bike for hunting is a considerable investment it pales in comparison to the purchase price of a new ATV.

As I mentioned earlier, I don’t suggest replacing an ATV with a hunting electric bike. Both modes of transportation have their strength and unique use cases. Ideally, they should complement each other. However, if a decision has to be made, for example, due to budget constraints, an electric hunting bike is definitely the way to go.

Compared to ATVs you can save a lot of money since the purchase price of a hunting e bike is much lower and you don’t need to buy an additional trailer for transportation either.

An Electric Hunting Bike Is Cheaper To Maintain

Unlike traditional combustion engines that are prone to problems and breakdowns, electric motors and electric bikes are usually very reliable. That makes them very user-friendly and super easy to maintain.

Usually all that’s required after a successful hunting trip is a good clean and a power outlet to plug into to recharge the battery and you’re done

There’s no need to drive to a garage or hire a mechanic, which is very pocket-friendly. There’s not even any need to drive to your local gas station either which saves you time and money as well.

An Electric Hunting Bike Is Cheaper To Store And Transport

When you use an ATV for your hunting trips you are faced with 2 major problems.

  1. You need to figure out where to store your ATV when you are not using it (which is probably most of the time).
  2. You also need to figure out how to transport your ATV from your home to your hunting grounds.

Solving these problems might require some additional investments.

  1. If your existing garage isn’t large enough you have to build an additional garage just to store your ATV.
  2. To transport your ATV you have to spend additional money for a suitable trailer onto which you can fix the ATV for transportation.

Both of these issues can be expensive and time-consuming hassles that you don’t have when using an electric bike for hunting.

  • You don’t need an extra garage because your hunting electric bike can easily be stored in your existing garage. You can put your hunting bike almost anywhere since it doesn’t take up a lot of space at all.
  • You also don’t need a trailer. You can simply put your electric hunting bike on the bed of your truck for easy transportation.

Factors To Consider To Find The Best Electric Hunting Bike For You?

What Is The Best Electric Bike For Hunting

Image: ©Wild Outdoor Gear

We’ve already discussed numerous benefits of using electric bikes for hunting. But the reality is that not every hunting electric bike is like the next. Even though they’re all made for hunting each bike has its own individual strengths.

Finding the most suitable electric hunting bike for YOU depends on your intended use cases and you personally, i.e. your size and weight, for example.

How Do You Intend To Use Your Best Electric Hunting Bike?

So, you might be asking yourself, what do I mean by “intend to use”, right? After all, you came here looking for the best electric bikes for hunting so obviously your “use case” is “hunting”.

But unlike an ATV, for example, you might want to use your hunting electric bike for other purposes as well:

  • Maybe you want to go hiking with your family and you want to use your hunting e-bike to get around.
  • Maybe you also want to use your hunting bike for your daily commute to get the most out of your investment.

For the latter one, you’re probably looking for a good all-rounder while for the former you might be looking for a bike that’s good at one very specific thing.

For What Hunting Activities Do You Need Your Electric Hunting Bike The Most?

There are many different activities involved on a regular hunt.

  1. Depending on the type of animal you’re hunting you might need your electric hunting bike to follow a fast-moving herd of elks.
  2. If you’re hunting deer you might need a fast and easy method to get to and from your deer stand quickly and undetected.
  3. Or you need help checking your trail cameras daily or at regular intervals.
  4. Even scouting along old logging roads or exploring more remote backcountry wilderness for the first time all present different challenges for you and your eBike.

A more basic electric hunting bike with a hub motor might be sufficient for checking trail cameras while a stronger bike might be required to explore more remote hunting grounds.

What Is Your Hunting Style?

Best Electric Bike For Different Hunting Styles

Image: ©HarryHuber via canva.com

Choosing the best electric bike for your hunt also depends on your specific hunting style, which in turn is, of course, dependent on the type of animal you intend to hunt.

  1. Are you still hunting for big game species such as deer, elk, or bear?
  2. Maybe you prefer stand hunting behind your tree stand or ground blind?
  3. Are you calling the animal or do you usually use bait hunting?

All of these different hunting styles require different kinds of mobility. More powerful motors and batteries might characterize the best electric bikes for deer hunting or elk hunting while this might not be a requirement for coon hunting, waterfowl hunting, or turkey hunting, for example.

On What Types Of Terrain Do You Want To Use Your Electric Hunting Bike The Most?

Even though the best electric bikes for hunting are generally well-designed to handle off-road conditions easily, there are still differences in performance you should consider. While some hunting e-bikes are especially good at handling wet, muddy, or slippery terrain others perform best when you try to descend or climb hills.

Some of the best electric bikes for hunting even feature a “walk-assist” mode that helps you pull a heavy load (like your big game) through very challenging terrain you wouldn’t feel comfortable riding through.

So, when selecting the most suitable eBike for yourself you need to consider whether you’re going to use it mostly on flat terrain, roads, paths, and trails or steep hills. Are you going to move through grass, sticks, and foliage or rather muddy, rough, and wet grounds?

For even and flat land a hunting ebike with hub motor might be the best choice while very challenging terrain might require one with dual hub motors or an Ultra mid drive motor, for example.

Keep on reading to find out which electric hunting bike is best for you.

How Much Range Do You Need From Your Best Electric Hunting Bike?

Top Electric Hunting Bikes For Range

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

Range or battery life refers to the distance you want to travel on your electric bike on a single hunting trip.

  • Do you just want to move from your drop off point to the ambush site and back to your truck?
  • Or do you want to use your hunting electric bike to travel with the game over longer distances?
  • For how many days do you hunt without going home to recharge the battery?

How To Measure Range

Range is a difficult topic to measure in absolute numbers. As you can imagine, the range one can ride on a single battery charge doesn’t just depend on the capacity of the battery. Many other factors, such as

  • the overall weight that’s being carried or pulled,
  • the type of terrain that’s being crossed,
  • the weather conditions, especially the wind conditions, etc.

all play an important role and can influence the range you can cover with your electric hunting bike on a single battery charge.

How To Understand Manufacturers’ Claims About Range

Many manufacturers advertise a specific range that was achieved under “ideal” conditions. What does that mean?

It means they tested the range of their bikes by riding at a very low speed (often only 13 – 15 mph) on a flat surface (often a well-maintained road) with a small and light-weight rider without any additional gear or weight loaded in ideal weather conditions with no wind etc.

You should not expect to be able to achieve a similar range under “normal” conditions, carrying some hunting gear across off-road terrain. You can use the “maximum range” stated by the manufacturers only as a means for comparing the different models.

Further down I will show you a great method to effectively compare the range capabilities of different hunting e-bikes easily without relying too much on the brands’ marketing slogans to find the perfect electric hunting bike for your needs.

How Fast Should Your Best Electric Hunting Bike Be?

Best Electric Hunting Bikes For Speed

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

The speed that your hunting electric bike can produce is another important selection criterion that depends on how you intend to use your hunting bike.

  1. Do you just want to get from point A to point B more easily than by walking and without having to wear a pack on your back with 40 lbs worth of hunting gear?
  2. Or do you intend to hunt some fast-moving animals like an elk herd that’s keeping you on your toes?

For the former, you’d probably want to get a bike that’s more specialized in carrying a tremendous amount of weight.

For the latter, a hunting electric bike that’s fast on all kinds of rough and challenging terrains might be the better option.

What Is The Best Electric Hunting Bike For Your Body Measurements

Best Electric Hunting Bike For Your Body Measurements

Just like with any other regular bicycle size does matter when it comes to finding a hunting bike that fits you perfectly.

Consider Your Height And Leg Length

While some manufacturers offer their hunting electric bikes in different sizes, e.g. small, medium, and large, others only offer one single size.

If you’re of “average” height most of the popular electric hunting bikes on the market will probably be suitable for you. However, if you are taller or shorter you want to pay extra attention to the dimensions of the hunting bike of your choice. The same applies to weight.

Consider Your Body Weight

Even though the best electric bikes for hunting are true workhorses that can carry tremendous amounts of weight they still have a maximum weight capacity that you probably don’t want to exceed as this might otherwise cause damage to the bike.

When considering the maximum load capacity of your hunting bike you need to include your body weight and the amount of hunting gear you intend to bring along with you.

What Is The Best Electric Hunting Bike For Your Unique Circumstances

Since you’re looking for the best hunting bike for your unique specific requirements, your personal circumstances also play a big role in selecting a bike that’s just perfect for you.

Maybe you have some mobility issues that restrict you from lifting your legs over the middle bar of a bicycle. In this case, you might prefer a step-through bike and not a “step-over” one.

Maybe you have some other limitations, injuries, restrictions, or age-related issues. If you find it difficult to balance, for example, choosing an electric hunting bike with 3 wheels instead of 2 might help you with that.

What Is The Best Electric Hunting Bike For Your Budget

Finally, your budget is also of immense importance – obviously. Prices for popular electric hunting bikes vary wildly, mostly dependent on the motor and the battery used.

If you can afford it and you’re extremely passionate about your hunting experiences you might want the best electric hunting bike money can buy. In that case, you will be looking at models with more powerful motors and batteries compared to someone who just wants the most basic hunting bike available to get from point A to point B.

And if you’re somewhere in the middle I recommend you have a clear idea of what your budget is and how much you’re willing to spend.

Questions To Ask To Find The Best Electric Hunting Bike For You

What Are The Best Electric Bikes For Hunting?

Image: ©ManlyLife

In this section, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the questions you should have answers to before buying any eBike for hunting.

This includes all parts of the hardware, such as the motor, the battery, the frame, the suspension, the brakes, etc., as well as all the features and other aspects such as warranties and money-back guarantees.

Which Motor Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

The motor is the most important element of any electric bike, especially one for hunting. It’s the part that is the most expensive and you should pay close attention to it. But what differentiates one motor from the next and which motor is best for you?

When it comes to comparing the different motors there are numerous aspects to consider before your selection:

  • motor placement,
  • motor wattage,
  • motor torque.

Which Motor Placement Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Electric Hunting Bike Motor Placement

Image: ©Rambo Bikes edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com

If this is your first eBike for hunting or if you’re a beginner e-bike rider there are 2 different motor placements you will encounter:

  1. A motor that is placed kind of inside the back wheel, called a Rear Hub Motor and
  2. a motor that is placed more or less in the middle of the bike where your pedals are attached called a Mid Drive Motor.

Each of these has their strengths and weaknesses and we will look at those in more detail in the next section.

Should You Choose A Hub Motor For Your Best Electric Hunting Bike?

The hub motor is simple and quite inexpensive to manufacture. As a result, eBikes with a hub motor are often more affordable than their mid drive counterparts.

Hub motors are not integrated with the gearing system of the eBike and as such are much more forgiving and easier to handle than mid drive motors. Therefore, they’re more suited for beginner riders who are looking to purchase their very first electric hunting bike.

The rear hub motor powers the back wheel of the hunting e-bike resulting in a feeling of being pushed from behind. At first, this rear wheel drive can sometimes feel a little different from riding a regular human-powered bicycle. So, riding a hub powered e bike for hunting might require a few practice runs to get used to it.

Hub motors often are complemented with an efficient pedal assist function to prolong the battery life and provide additional power when needed.

While hunting e bikes with rear hub motor can provide a lot of power they’re often not your best choice if you intend to use your bike to regularly ascend or descend steep hills. In that case, a mid drive electric bike might be a better option for you.

Should You Choose A Mid Drive Motor For Your Best Electric Hunting Bike?

Mid drive motors probably give you a more natural feeling when riding, i.e. a feeling that is most similar to regular bicycling.

  • A mid drive bike is usually equipped with more sensors and therefore able to match your peddling efforts more accurately.
  • Mid drive bikes also tend to be more powerful and provide better performance on steep hills or rugged terrain.
  • As a consequence of greater power, they often come with a higher price tag compared to their hub motor counterparts.
  • Because mid drive motors comprise more electronic parts there’s also more that can go wrong or break.
  • Mid drive motors are integrated with the gearing system of the electric bike and consequently, you can more easily break them if you ride in the wrong gear, for example.

So, as a general rule, I’d recommend mid drive motors for hunters who

  • already have some experience using an electric bike.
  • mostly hunt in rough terrain and need their hunting e-bike to go up and down very steep hills regularly.
Should You Choose An Ultra Mid Drive Motor For Your Best Electric Hunting Bike?

Nowadays, the mid drive motor is no longer the only superior motor type you find in some of the best electric bikes for hunting.

The company Bafang developed an Ultra Mid Drive electric motor that performs even better thanks to an additional sensor that enables it to perfectly match the effort that you put into pedaling with the power it provides. In other words, the more or the harder you pedal the more assistance you will receive from the Bafang Ultra motor.

In my opinion, Ultra mid drive motors are probably the best motors available to hunters today which, of course, is also reflected in the price tag.

Should You Choose An All Wheel Drive or Dual Hub Motor For Your Best Electric Hunting Bike?

Finally, there’s another type of motor placement that has its own benefits. A select few manufacturers offer electric hunting bikes with dual hub motors, i.e. a rear hub motor at the rear wheel and a front hub motor at the front wheel. You basically get an electric bike with 2 motors and with twice the power.

While the rear hub motor pushes the ebike forward, the front hub motor pulls the hunting electric bike along. You can switch between using both dual hub motors simultaneously or only one of them depending on the terrain you’re facing.

All wheel drive electric bikes for hunting are extremely powerful machines that dominate any kind of challenging terrain with ease.

However, having 2 motors also requires 2 batteries which not only increases the price for such an electric hunting bike but also its overall weight. This in turn might make riding on sifter ground and transporting your hunting ebike more difficult.

How Much Motor Wattage Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

While the amount of watts an e bike has is not a very useful measurement on its own, I wanted to mention it here anyway because when you’re comparing different hunting e bikes the number of watts can be an indication of the overall power of the bike.

Most electric hunting bikes have between 750 to 1000 watts which are enough to get through rough terrain, mud, and sandy ground and up and down steep and hilly terrain.

The wattage is often stated as “continuous” and “peak” output. I’d recommend looking for at least 1000W of peak output if you want to climb any meaningful hills on a regular basis.

As a general rule of thumb, expect to pay more for a 1000 W bike than for a 750 W one. So, you need to ask yourself on which type of terrain you intend to use your e-bike the most. Do you need your bike to have strong hill climbing capabilities or will it be an exception when you climb steeper hills?

How Much Motor Torque Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Torque is probably your best way to assess the true power of any e-bike (at least for our purposes). Since torque measures the force with which the rear wheel is being rotated you can imagine that more torque will make it easier for you to climb up a steeper hill, right?

More torque is often reflected in a higher price so again you need to ask yourself whether your intended use justifies the extra expense or whether an electric bike with slightly less torque will be sufficient for your hunting adventures.

Since you’re probably going to use your hunting electric bike more off-road than on-road the following question arises: Which motor is best for which type of terrain?

Keep on reading to find out.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Flat Land?

Best Electric Bike For Hunting On Flat Land

Image: ©Bakcou

If you already know that most of the time you will use your e-bike to traverse relatively even or flat land, for example when moving forwards and backward between your truck and your ground blinds, a rear hub motor might do the trick. In that case, you can spare the extra expense of a mid drive motor.

If, on the other hand, you anticipate dealing with moderate to rough terrain with some hill climbing regularly I’d recommend considering a mid drive motor.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Steep Hills?

Best Hunting eBike For Climbing Steep Hills

Image: ©QuietKat

As a general rule of thumb, you need a bike with a motor that delivers enough torque and peak power output (at least 1000 W) if you want to climb steep hills especially if you’re also carrying a lot of gear and other weight as well.

I’ve already mentioned that an electric hunting bike with an Ultra Mid Drive motor (like the Bafang Ultra Motor) might be best suited if you are likely to encounter many very challenging hills and/or rough terrain with steep ascents and descents.

If you need complete power control over your bike regularly an Ultra Mid Drive motor is your best option followed by an all wheel drive and a regular mid drive one. However, if your terrain is quite moderate and the hills don’t have more than a 20° incline a rear hub motor with enough torque and wattage can likely handle that, too.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Muddy Terrain?

Best eBike For Hunting On Muddy Terrain

Image: ©QuietKat

When it comes to muddy terrain the differences between a hub and a mid drive motor are not that significant. Both motor types will probably get you through mud without major issues. As long as you’re using fat tire bikes that give you great traction both motors perform well in these conditions.

However, if you’re concerned with washouts or with keeping your balance on muddy terrain you might want to consider a 3-wheel electric hunting bike like the Rungu Dualie instead of a 2-wheel one.

Generally speaking, everything else being equal, a mid drive motor will probably perform slightly better than an equally powered hub motor but that performance difference shows more when climbing steep hills than when riding through mud.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Rough, Uneven, Or Rocky Terrain?

Best Electric Hunting Bike For Rough Uneven Or Rocky Terrain

Image: ©RAD Power Bikes

When it comes to rough and rocky terrain both motor types, hub and mid drive, will be able to handle it.

An electric hunting bike with a mid drive motor might feel slightly easier to handle on loose ground because the motor is situated more or less in the middle of the electric bike. This results in a better, more even weight distribution.

Handling a mid drive electric bike can therefore be slightly easier on rough or rocky terrain than handling a hunting electric bike with a rear hub motor.

This can make a difference if you need to travel at greater speed or are hauling a lot of weight. In those cases, you might enjoy the superior stability and handling of a mid drive electric hunting bike.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Mixed Terrain?

Best E Bike For Hunting On Mixed Terrain

Image: ©Bakcou

Which is the best motor for you if you ride on many different types of terrain?

The simple answer is: it depends.

The more complex answer is you need to estimate whether the additional investment in mid drive or ultra mid drive electric bikes is justified given your anticipated intended use cases.

If good hill climbing capabilities are an important factor and essential component for you then I’d definitely recommend looking into mid drive or even ultra mid drive or all wheel drive hunting ebikes.

Otherwise, reliable and powerful rear hub motors with sufficient torque, wattage, and peak power output might give you the freedom and satisfaction you’re looking for.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor For Your Hunting Style?

When choosing an electric hunting bike that’s best for your needs it’s important to also take your hunting style and strategy into account.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Getting To And From Your Deer Blind?

Best Hunting E Bike To Travel To Tree Stand Or Ground Blind

Image: ©BowSite

If you’re a stand hunter you’re probably more concerned with hauling your gear and (if you’re lucky) your hunt between your truck and your ground blinds. So the amount of weight you can carry and haul with your electric hunting bike becomes more important.

Both, hub and mid drive motors with enough wattage and torque can get this job done for you as long as the terrain is not too challenging.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Scouting Large Areas Or Following A Fast Moving Herd?

Best Electric Bikes For Hunting A Fast Moving Herd

Image: ©Bakcou

If, on the other hand, you’re a still hunter you might pay more attention to the speed and hill-climbing capabilities of your hunting electric bike.

The range also becomes more important in this case because you don’t always know in advance where your scouting will lead you to.

Imagine you’ve been scouting your animals all day and now, just before the perfect ambush situation has arrived this happens … your battery is empty. You definitely don’t want to have to return to your truck or campsite just before the perfect ambush situation because you’re running low on battery, right?

Here, a mid drive electric hunting bike with a powerful battery might be the best option for you.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Checking Trail Cameras?

Best Electric Hunting Bikes For Checking Trail Cameras

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

If you intend to use your bike to check your trail cameras daily both types of motors will be very useful to you. You can check your trail cameras in a fraction of the time it takes you to do the same thing on foot.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Hauling Your Gear Or Your Hunt?

Top Rated Electric Hunting Bikes For Hauling Gear Or Your Hunt

Image: ©QuietKat

When it comes to hauling your equipment or recovering your hunt, speed is less important. What counts here most is the ability to handle a lot of weight.

Both types of electric bikes, hub, and mid drive, are capable of achieving this task as long as they’re sufficiently strong. This is more about the overall strength of the motor rather than the type of motor.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor For Other Activities?

Best Hunting e-Bike For Other Activities

Image: ©QuietKat

As I mentioned earlier, when buying an electric bike for hunting you need to decide whether you prefer a very specialized bike that is superior in performing one specific task or if you want more of an all-rounder.

In the latter case, you might ask yourself what other activities you want to perform with your electric bike apart from hunting.

One of the many advantages that a hunting electric bike has is that it can be a road-capable mode of transport that you can even use for your daily commute or other activities.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Exploring New Hunting Grounds?

Best E-Bike For Hunting In New Grounds

Image: ©Bakcou

You might want to explore new hunting grounds so you need an electric bike with a wide enough range (or battery life) so that you can cover a large area on a single trip.

Both motor types can help you with that and I recommend you pay particular attention to the battery capabilities including the option to bring a second battery with you that you can exchange during your trip once the first one is empty.

With a removable and exchangeable battery, you can effectively double the normal range of your ebike which will be a big plus when looking for new hunting grounds.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Your Daily Commute?

Top Electric Hunting Bikes For Commuting

Image: ©RAD Power Bikes

If you want to use your e-bike daily and not just off road but also for commuting, for example, you need to pay attention to the law in your specific area.

In most jurisdictions, electric bikes (and that includes electric hunting bikes) are street legal if they fall within the category of a Class 1 or Class 2 ebike. That requires the motor to have not more than 750 W and a maximum speed of 20mph.

Some electric hunting bikes offer the possibility of changing the mode from, for example, “unlimited” to a “class 1” or “class 2” compliant ebike with the switch of a button and/or by removing the throttle.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike Motor Type For Cruising And Having Fun?

Ultimate Electric Bikes For Hunting And Having Fun

If you want to use your bike for other off-road activities such as hiking with your family or riding a dirt trail or regular mountain biking you can count on the off-road capabilities of most if not all electric hunting bikes.

When compared with other electric bikes you will probably find that the off-road capabilities of your hunting electric bike are far superior to those of more “regular” ebikes.

Should Your Best Electric Hunting Bike Have Walk-Assist Mode?

Best Hunting E-Bike With Walk-Assist Mode

Image: ©Bakcou

Should you need to recover your hunt through steep, hilly, or rough terrain, a walk-assist mode might be most important to you.

With a walk-assist mode you can walk through terrain that you feel more comfortable walking through while benefiting from the electric motor to haul your game for you.

Which Battery Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

On your quest to find an electric hunting bike that’s best suited for your needs, you will undoubtedly come across the question of which battery to choose.

Keep on reading to learn how the batteries of different hunting ebikes differ from each other.

Most hunting electric bikes nowadays come with Lithium-ion batteries which are significantly lighter than more traditional lead-acid batteries. Most leading and premium brands equipped their hunting ebikes with 48 V batteries. The only noticeable exception is Rungu. They equipped their “Dualie” with batteries with 52 V.

The main differentiator of the different batteries you’ll find is the amount of Amp Hours (Ah) each battery has. That’s an important indicator of how long the battery can operate and what range you can expect to travel on a single battery charge.

You can expect to find most batteries with Amp Hours somewhere in the range between 14 Ah to 25 Ah. Rambo offers its Cruiser also with a 10.4 Ah battery while the Bikonit Warthog MD 1000 has a 30 Ah battery.

When you multiply the Volts (V) of the battery by the Amp Hours (Ah) you get the total Watt Hours (Wh).

As a general rule of thumb, I like to assume that 1 mile traveled on your e-bike consumes approximately 20 Wh. So by dividing the total Wh of the battery by 20 you get an estimated theoretical range for a single battery charge.

While this is of course not very precise it gives you an easy means to compare different batteries in terms of potential range. Everything else being equal, the higher the Wh the further you can travel with your electric bike on a single battery charge. However, remember you can always use the pedal assist mode to make your battery last longer.

Which Frame Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

The bike frame is an important piece of hardware for any electric hunting bike.

  1. It has to be strong enough to handle any type of terrain while also offering sufficient load capacity and a sturdy bike rack (usually a rear rack) to carry more gear.
  2. It also has to be able to cope with the quite significant forces that are being exerted onto it by the powerful motors.
  3. At the same time, it needs to be light enough to stay manageable on softer, sandy, or muddy grounds.
  4. It also has to be light enough for it to be easily lifted onto the bed of your truck for fast, easy, and effortless transportation.

To accommodate for both of these requirements, strength, and lightweight, most electric hunting bike manufacturers have opted to use 6061 Aluminum frames. So, these frames mostly differ in the way they’re designed.

Many electric bikes come either with a step-over or a step-through frame with the latter becoming increasingly popular in recent times.

Some premium brands offer their hunting ebikes in different frame sizes, usually SMALL, MEDIUM and LARGE while others have opted to only offer one size, usually a MEDIUM.

So, size does matter after all, at least when it comes to finding the perfect electric hunting bike for your needs and your body height and leg length.

Which Suspension Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Best Hunting eBike Suspension

Image: ©QuietKat

The suspension, on the other hand, is handled differently by different manufacturers and is an aspect of your hunting electric bike that you should pay close attention to. A strong suspension will make for a smooth ride across rough terrain.

Suspensions work like shock absorbers, protecting the rider as much as the bike itself from strong impact forces.

Most of the time, especially for the low-to-mid-range electric hunting bikes, you will find manufacturers have equipped their electric bikes with front suspension only. Since the front suspension carries most of the weight of the rider it will have a big effect on how smooth your off-road ride will feel.

Some, often more premium, electric hunting bikes come with a full suspension system, i.e. front and rear suspensions. This leads to a much better riding performance even when going deep into the backcountry and off the beaten track.

The best electric bikes with full suspension come at a price, of course, but if you intend to ride for an extended period across bumpy and rough terrain, it’s an investment that might reward you handsomely in the long run.

However, I also want to point out that many hunters prefer not to have rear suspension as this makes it easier to carry a lot of gear on the rear rack. But that issue doesn’t arise if you carry your gear on your back instead.

Which Tires Are Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

When it comes to tires most manufacturers equip their hunting ebikes with fat tires that often have a width of 4’’ and a diameter of either 26’’ or 20’’.

Fat tires cut down on efficiency compared to thinner tires but they give you much better traction off-road and a better ride experience. The wider base also means improved stability

Fat Tire Bikes With Puncture Resistant Tires

You might want to opt for all terrain fat tires preferably even puncture resistant tires. While I personally haven’t had a punctured tire riding an ebike I think it’s one of those scenarios you want to avoid if possible.

Puncture resistant tires do exactly as it says on the tin: they greatly reduce the chances of ending up with a flat tire in the middle of the wilderness.

Depending on which type of motor you opted for, changing the (back) tire of your fat tire bike means removing the wheel which might not be that easy or straightforward to accomplish.

However, just as a precaution, I’d recommend you always carry a spare tube and a mini air pump with you. Fat tires are surprisingly easy to pump up by hand so bringing this emergency kit along with you could save you from having to walk your bike back out of the backcountry.

How Much Range Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Electric Bikes For Hunting With The Best Range

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

A word of caution. When it comes to range, manufacturers sometimes make misleading or unclear claims about the range that can be achieved with a single full charge of their batteries. In other words how many miles you can travel with a single battery charge.

Of course, the distance you can travel with any hunting electric bike on a single battery charge depends on many different factors. Just like with a motorcycle or a regular petrol-powered car, a full tank will not always carry you the same distance.

Factors like

  • the overall weight (your body weight, plus clothing plus gear plus any other load) you’re carrying,
  • the speed at which you’re traveling (higher speeds usually consume more energy and therefore drain your battery more quickly),
  • the wind conditions,
  • the type of ground you’re riding on (loose ground requires more energy to move the bike),
  • the type of terrain you’re traveling through (climbing up hills consumes more energy than riding on flat land)

are just a few of the factors that influence the distance you can travel on a single battery charge.

Of course, manufacturers want that number to be as high as possible, from a marketing perspective, because it suggests to the customer that their hunting e bike is more powerful than that of a competing manufacturer.

To achieve this they “test-ride” their bikes under “ideal conditions”, riding on a flat surface, probably a proper road, with favorable wind conditions and a small and lightweight rider without any gear or additional weight.

To compare different hunting e bikes to find the best electric hunting bike for your personal needs these numbers are not very useful.

How To Best Calculate The Range Of Your Electric Hunting Bike

Unless all manufacturers tested their electric bikes on the same road, under the same weather conditions with the same rider I’d suggest you use a more objective measure to compare the range performance of the different electric hunting bikes on the market.

That number is Watt Hours (Wh).

Without going too much into detail here, think of Wh as the basis of range. In other words, everything else being equal, the higher the Wh of a battery, the more range you can expect from that hunting electric bike.

While some manufacturers publish the Wh of their electric hunting bikes others don’t. But don’t worry, it’s a number that’s easily and quickly calculated.

Just multiply the voltage of the battery (V) with the battery’s Amp Hours (Ah): V x Ah = Wh. For example, a battery with 48 V and 10 Ah would produce 480 Wh.

While there is more to it than that, this gives you an easy number that is more objective when comparing different electric hunting bikes. As a rule of thumb, you can assume that the greater the Wh the greater the range.

  • A bike with 400 – 500 Wh can travel 12-20 miles on a single charge.
  • A bike with 600 – 700 Wh can travel more like 25 miles on a single charge.
  • A bike with 1,000 plus Wh can travel somewhere between 30 – 60 miles on a single charge.

How Much Range Does Your Electric Hunting Bike Need

Of course, while it’s fun to calculate these numbers, it’s also worth noticing that a more powerful battery usually also comes with a heavier price tag. Therefore, I think there are more important questions you could ask.

  1. How much range do you actually need on a day-to-day basis?
  2. How long do you intend to ride before you’re able to recharge your battery?
  3. Do you intend to make many smaller trips or are you more likely to scout large areas of wilderness for extended periods?

Remember, you always have the option to bring along a second battery which would effectively double your range.

Also remember, that you don’t need to use the motor the entire time. If you only utilize the motor when you’re going through steep or otherwise rough terrain or if you use pedal assist mode, the battery won’t empty as quickly allowing you to ride for longer.

How Much Speed Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Best E Bike For Hunting With Speed

Image: ©QuietKat

Speed is somewhat of a difficult topic because of legal restrictions.

3-tier Classification System Of Electric Bikes

In jurisdictions that use the 3-tier classification system of electric bikes, you cannot have your hunting e bike go faster than 20 mph, for example, if you want to use it where only bicycles are allowed.

On the other hand, if you’re riding off-road and off any trails or paths, like on private land, for example, you might be able to max out the power of your bike and go at full speed.

Wattage And Power Output

Instead of thinking only of top speed, I’d suggest you think about the power, i.e. the continuous and maximum (peak) power output you need from your electric bike for hunting.

As a rule of thumb, the wattage of the motor is closely related to the

  • overall power output,
  • speed and
  • overall performance

of your hunting electric bike.

Everything else being equal, a motor with a higher wattage should produce a higher power output and a higher top speed.

The 3 Different Power Outputs

Keeping in mind, though, that you might encounter 3 different power outputs when researching what’s the best electric hunting bike on the market.

You might come across

  1. “continuous power”,
  2. “peak power” and what I’d call
  3. “nominal power”.

But what are these and how are they helpful in finding the most suited electric hunting bike for you?

How Much Continuous Power Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

For me, the most important one is ‘continuous power”. It’s expressed in watts (W) and it gives the maximum amount of power a motor can sustain for a long period without overheating. In other words, it’s the maximum power at which you can run your bike without damaging it.

Considering the amount of money an electric hunting bike costs, I think it’s wise to treat it in a way that’ll keep it in great shape for as long as possible, right?

How Much Peak Power Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Peak power refers to the maximum power that can run through the motor. This comes in handy when trying to ride up a steeper slope, for example.

You should ride your bike at peak power only for very brief moments. Prolonged riding with peak power is not safe for the motor and will probably damage it over time.

It’s not something I’d suggest you do too often but in terms of hill climbing capabilities I’d choose a peak power output of at least 1000 W if I were looking for the best electric hunting bike for my personal use.

How Much Nominal Power Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Finally, we have nominal power. This has nothing to do with the actual power of a motor. It’s just part of the name the manufacturer gave the eBike.

For example, in Europe, electric bike motors are limited by law to not more than 250 W. As a result, some manufacturers have named their ebike 250W even though the motors are actually much stronger. It’s just a name and it does not indicate the true power of an electric bike for hunting or otherwise.

Instead of looking at “nominal power” you are much better off looking at the technical specs.

How Much Load Capacity Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Best Hunting Electric Bikes To Carry Heavy Load

Image: ©QuietKat

One of the key features of any electric hunting bike is its ability to carry a lot of weight across challenging off-road and rough terrains. That’s exactly what they’re designed for. Most bikes come equipped with a strong bike rack (mostly a rear rack) to allow you to carry more gear.

Almost all hunting ebikes on our list have a weight capacity of at least 300 lbs and the range goes up to 400 lbs. That includes the weight of

  • the rider,
  • clothing,
  • riding gear,
  • cargo and
  • any other additional hunting gear you might be carrying.

This does NOT include the bike itself or the weight it can haul, pull or tow when you attach a trailer to it to recover your big game, for example.

It’s important that you know and don’t exceed the load capacity of your bike, though. Loading your ebike with too much weight can compromise your safety and comfort. It can also damage the ebike itself.

How Reliable Is Your Electric Hunting Bike?

The last thing you want is for your bike to break down in the middle of nowhere leaving you stranded and “crying” for help.

Well, the good news is that’s very unlikely to happen. One of the big advantages electric bikes have over other modes of transportation such as an ATV or UTV is that should there be a problem with the motor you can always pedal your bike back home just like a regular bike.

Unlike an ATV or UTV that you would need to leave behind if you cannot fix it yourself on the spot, a hunting electric bike remains ridable even with a defective motor or battery.

I should note that riding an electric bike without any motor assistance is probably easier with a hub motor than with a mid drive motor. With the latter, you will experience more resistance when the motor is not working.

Having said that, electric motors are very low on maintenance and it’s rather unusual for them to have any technical difficulties in the first place. In my experience, as long as you keep your bike clean and service it semi-regularly, hunting eBikes are an incredibly reliable hunting companion.

Also, range anxiety as common in electric car owners is not an issue for hunting electric bike enthusiasts for the same reason. You can always keep pedaling as you would on a regular human-powered bicycle.

How Durable Is Your Electric Hunting Bike?

When you’re investing in an electric hunting bike, you want to make sure that you put your hard-earned money to good use. That means you want your hunting e bike to last as long as possible.

Over time there will be some wear and tear as is the case with any mobility device. However, if something does break after extended usage it can usually be replaced with a new part.

I would pay special attention to the warranty offered by the manufacturer or the retailer where you want to buy your electric bike for hunting. The warranty policies differ quite a lot between different brands and it pays to be a smart shopper.

How Easily Can You Transport Your Electric Hunting Bike?

How To Transport Your Best Electric Hunting Bike

The weight of an electric hunting bike is another important factor to consider before making any purchase decision.

While intuitively one might think that lighter is always better that’s not necessarily the case when it comes to hunting eBikes. Let me explain.

Heavier Vs Lighter Electric Bikes

Most of the weight of an e-bike doesn’t come from the frame but rather from the motor and the battery: stronger or bigger motors and stronger or bigger batteries are usually heavier, resulting in an overall weight increase of the hunting electric bike.

Most electric hunting bikes probably fall within a range of 50 – 80 lbs.

The heavier motor helps lower the center of gravity keeping the bike closer to the ground and easier to handle. This makes for a better riding experience, especially for a beginner rider.

Higher weight also means it’s easier to maintain higher speeds because once the bike has gained some momentum (especially when traveling on a straight road) that momentum will help keep moving the ebike forward.

Generally speaking, a lighter hunting electric bike usually also means a smaller motor and/or smaller battery which in turn means less range and less performance. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. On the contrary. It just depends on how you’re planning to use your electric bike.

  • If you need your ebike only for shorter trips from your drop-off point to your ground blinds, for example, the range is not that important and a lighter bike can get the job done well enough.
  • If, however, you anticipate longer hunting trips through steep and rough terrain where power is of the essence, then a bigger motor and battery and consequently a heavier bike will be your best options.

What Safety Features Are Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Top Rated Electric Hunting Bikes For Safety

Image: ©QuietKat edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com

Safety is, of course, an important aspect of any hunting trip and one that requires special attention when choosing the right electric hunting bike for your hunting adventures.

What Brakes Are Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

The most important safety feature on any e-bike is, of course, the breaking system consisting of front and rear brakes.

  • You want to know at all times that you can get your bike to a complete standstill at any moment during your hunting trip.
  • You also want to have the confidence that with your brakes you can tackle even the steepest descents that come your way.

Mechanical Disc Brakes Vs Hydraulic Brakes

There are 2 different brake systems you will come across when searching for the best-suited electric hunting bike for yourself:

  1. mechanical disc brakes
  2. hydraulic brakes.

Generally speaking, hydraulic brakes perform better than mechanical disc brakes across the board. This includes better stopping power and less day-to-day wear and tear. However, that’s not to say that mechanical disc brakes are bad. Electric bikes with mechanical disc brakes perform well, too.

Benefits Of Hydraulic Brakes

Electric bikes for hunting don’t “need” hydraulic brakes but they are beneficial when it comes to stopping power. They’re recommended if you intend to tackle challenging and steep descents.

Electric hunting bikes that are equipped with hydraulic brakes as front and rear brakes usually come at a premium but keep in mind that

  • hydraulic brakes often last longer than mechanical ones because the heat generated from the breaking process is distributed more evenly.
  • Hydraulic brakes are also often lighter and more sensitive since they operate with fluid instead of cables.

What Lighting Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Brakes are not the only safety device on your electric hunting bike. Lighting also plays an important role especially if you intend to be on the move before sunrise or after sunset.

Having said that, lighting is probably not that much of a differentiating factor when selecting your preferred hunting e bike. After all, you can always add or change the lighting on your bike should you want to.

What Suspension Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

I am also including suspensions here since they’re important for the safety of the bike and the rider when riding through rough terrain.

Most hunting ebikes come with great suspension, usually at the front wheel which is where most of the weight is being handled, while some Premium models even come with full suspension, i.e. at the front and the back.

Surprisingly, a small number of hunting electric bikes even come without any special suspension so it’s definitely worth paying attention to.

What Theft Protection Is Best For Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Another important safety feature is theft protection.

Buying an electric hunting bike is a substantial investment so you want to protect it to the best of your ability. That includes protection for the entire hunting ebike but also the removable battery such as:

  • regular bicycle locks,
  • a pre-installed alarm system
  • a lockable battery compartment
  • a GPS tracking system.

Should Your Electric Hunting Bike Have Regenerative Breaking?

What is regenerative breaking and does your electric hunting bike have it or need it?

According to Wikipedia “Regenerative braking is an energy recovery mechanism that slows down a moving vehicle or object by converting its kinetic energy into a form that can be either used immediately or stored until needed.”

In other words, it’s a system where every time you break, the energy (usually heat) that’s being released in regular brakes is being used to recharge the battery again.

As a result, with regenerative braking you should be able to extend the range you can ride on a single battery charge because the battery won’t empty as quickly as it would without regenerative braking. While this is true in principle there are a few drawbacks.

Drawbacks Of Regenerative Braking

  1. One is the added cost. Regenerative braking systems are still quite new and currently still very expensive.
  2. Second, the added mileage you can get with regenerative braking is not proportional to the extra cost.
  3. Third, regenerative braking systems add more weight to an e-bike which negatively affects the maximum range of the ebike.
  4. Fourth, electric bikes with regenerative braking are more difficult to ride when the motor is off due to extra resistance.
  5. Fifth, when using regenerative braking it takes longer to stop the ebike completely.

Benefits Of Regenerative Braking

However, regenerative braking has other benefits apart from recharging the battery. The biggest one is probably that you save a lot on brake pads.

Regenerative Braking And Direct Drive Motors

Finally, regenerative braking is mostly incorporated with Direct Drive motors.

There are some geared motors like the recently introduced GMAC (a cooperation of Vancouver-based Grin Technologies and Shanghai-based MAC Motors) that offer regenerative braking in a hub motor but they haven’t been widely adopted by the major ebike manufacturers or brands for any of the above-mentioned reasons.

As a result, regenerative braking is currently not yet an important selection criterion when looking for the right electric hunting bike but this might change at some point.

How Easy Is Your Electric Hunting Bike To Ride?

Best Hunting eBikes To Ride Easily

Image: ©Rungu Bikes

Riding a hunting e bike requires some learning curve. However, if you’re used to riding a regular electric bike the change will probably be minimal. If, on the other hand, you haven’t sat in the saddle so to speak for years, you want to opt for a hunting e bike with rear hub motor at first.

Rear hub motors are more forgiving and they don’t require the hunter to be on top of his or her game pretty much all the time.

A mid drive motor while superior in hill climbing capabilities also is more delicate in a sense. You pretty much want to be in the right gear all the time. If not, you could be doing some serious damage to your hunting electric bike, your drive train and maybe even break your chain.

How Noisy Is Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Generally speaking, the electric motor of an ebike doesn’t produce more than a quiet humming or buzzing sound. Compared to a regular ATV or UTV, hunting ebikes are virtually silent. The only other sound comes from the tires as they roll across the ground.

This applies to more or less all premium hunting e bikes and it’s great to know but it’s not an important selection criterion for finding the most suited electric hunting bike for you.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike For Your Intended Use?

I have already mentioned that different hunting ebikes perform better on different terrains. To determine which is the best one for your needs you should consider the main purpose of choosing a hunting electric bike in the first place.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike For Carrying A Lot Of Weight?

Do you mainly need help carrying a lot of gear between point A and point B? In that case, you need an electric hunting bike with a high load and pull capacity.

You might also want to consider a hunting electric bike with walk-assist mode to help you recover your game quickly even through rough terrain that you’re uncomfortable riding through.

What’s The Best Electric Hunting Bike For Scouting Large Areas?

Do you mainly want to scout larger areas or follow a moving elk herd? In that case, you need an electric hunting bike that is fast and agile.

How Easy Is Your Electric Hunting Bike To Manoeuvre?

How does the bike handle, and how steep is the learning curve? Again, this one depends on how you intend to use your hunting e bike:

  • if you’re an inexperienced bike rider, I’d recommend starting with a rear hub motor as they are more forgiving and allow more room for mistakes.
  • if you’re concerned with washouts a 3-wheel electric hunting bike might be a better choice, especially if you intend to ride a lot across loose ground like sand or muddy or snowy ground that can be very slippery.
Should Your Electric Hunting Bike Have A Push Throttle Or Twist Throttle?

The type of throttle you prefer can also make a difference. Some hunting ebikes have a button to push while others use a twist throttle attached to the handlebar. This is a question of personal preference which only you can decide for yourself.

How About Walk-Assist Mode?

I already talked about the “walk-assist” mode that some hunting electric bikes offer which might be useful if you’re anticipating having to recover your harvest through challenging terrains you’re uncomfortable riding through.

Why Size Matters

The size of the hunting electric bike in comparison to your measurements can also influence how comfortable you’ll feel maneuvering it. While some hunting ebikes come in multiple sizes others are only available in one size.

You should look at the manufacturers’ recommendations regarding the rider’s minimum and maximum height and weight to find the most suitable electric hunting bike for your specific measurements.

What Warranty Do You Get With Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Electric Hunting Bike Warranties

Image: ©QuietKat edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com

When it comes to warranty it pays to read the small print. There are some surprising differences offered by the different manufacturers. Anything from 1-year to 2-years up to a lifetime warranty, so I’d recommend having a close look before buying.

Post-Sales Customer Experience

Another issue here, I’d like to quickly mention, is the actual post-sales customer experience and customer service offered by the different brands.

Not every electric bike is made by the company selling it. There are some brands out there that don’t manufacture their bikes themselves.

More often than not, the manufacturing takes place in China which in itself is not a problem. The problem arises if the brand you bought from has no infrastructure in the USA and you’ll have to deal with the company in China directly. Again, that’s not necessarily a big issue but something you should be aware of.

Many electric hunting bike manufacturers provide excellent after-sales customer service and as long as you buy one of their bikes you shouldn’t have to worry about getting things repaired or exchanged at a later stage should the need arise.

How Much Value-For-Money Does Your Electric Hunting Bike Offer?

Best Hunting E Bike For The Money

Image: ©Bakcou edited by Electric-Hunting-Bike.com

You know the saying great quality has its price, right? Well, electric hunting bikes are no exception. If you want to call a premium electric hunting bike your own you’ll have to pay a premium price in return.

Long-Term Value Vs Quick Bargain

I strongly recommend focusing more on value-for-money when selecting the best electric hunting bike for your hunting lifestyle.

  • Ideally, you want your hunting e-bike to last as long as possible so that you get more enjoyment out of it as well as a better return on your investment.
  • You also want a bike that performs well, no matter what conditions or terrain you throw at it, correct?
  • And of course, you want an e bike that’s a reliable hunting buddy, that doesn’t break down and that gets the job done every time.

In other words, you want the best electric hunting bike for yourself. You want to look forward to riding your new hunting pal every time you’re going on a new trip. If you want that feeling of excitement and satisfaction you need to ask yourself how much is it worth to you and then make your purchasing decision accordingly.

What Are Other Hunters Saying About Their Electric Hunting Bikes?

Here are a few quotes from other hunters who can no longer imagine going on a hunt without their beloved electric hunting bike.

  1. “For spring bear, I find myself in logging country looking for closed gates that are dormant from logging trucks. This is where some of the best grass grows and you can find bears nearby. This is where the eBike shines. You can quietly work the road systems and maintain battery life. With an e-bike, you can go anywhere a regular mountain bike can go.” – Dan, elkshape.com
  2. “As a bowhunter, traveling in complete silence is my favorite component of utilizing the eBike.” – Dan, elkshape.com
  3. “I can travel without making lots of noise or creating plumes of exhaust fumes.” – Dan, elkshape.com
  4. “You were originally not an advocate of ebikes. What changed your mind?” “I had the opportunity to help a buddy pack a monster bull out in 2019. He and another friend both used e-bikes to haul their loads out. I hauled my load out on foot. Mind you, this was two 65-plus year old men with over 80 pounds of elk meat on their e-bikes. They made the round trip in about 1/4 of the time it took me on foot. I was sold after that.” – Matt Teter
  5. “My e-bike has extended my hunting timeline.” – ez3putt

Now we’re getting to the section where the rubber meets the road. In this section, we discuss in detail which is the best electric hunting bike for the money available in the market. Not an easy task and, spoiler alert, different hunting ebikes are better suited for different circumstances.

So, the question for you shouldn’t be what is the best electric bike for hunting but rather what’s the best electric hunting bike FOR ME, for my situation, for my intended use cases, for where I live, for my budget, for my size and weight, etc.

With that in mind, let’s dive in.

Mule Elite Electric Hunting Bike By Bakcou

Bakcou Mule Elite Electric Hunting Bike Review

Image: ©Bakcou

The Mule Electric Hunting Bike by Bakcou (formerly known as BackCountry) has won the top spot as the overall best electric hunting bike for the money available in the market today.

It’s an absolute beast that’s top-of-the-range when it comes to electric hunting bikes.

What Makes The Mule The Best Electric Hunting Bike

Unlike many other hunting ebikes, the Mule features a Bafang ULTRA mid drive motor which is probably the best and most powerful motor you can get. It’s often referred to as the “diesel engine” of mid drive electric bike motors which is only fitting since the Mule itself is a true workhorse (or work mule?), too.

But it’s not just the pure power of an incredible 160 Nm of torque that makes this ultra mid drive motor so outstanding. There’s so much more to discover and love about this awesome electric hunting bike.

Keep on reading to find out more.

Enjoy A Natural Riding Experience With Your Mule Electric Hunting Bike

That includes, for example, the number of sensors that constantly provide feedback to the motor allowing the latter to provide exactly the right amount of power the hunter needs at any given moment.

You can also choose between “sport” mode and “eco” mode, plus five pedal assist settings for each mode. As a result, you feel confident and in complete control when hunting with the Mule Elite.

The Mule Electric Hunting Bike Enables You To Always Stay Compliant With The Law

The Mule also allows you to toggle between 750 W and 1000 W continuous output which is awesome and helps to stay compliant with the laws in many jurisdictions.

Incredibly, you can even remove the throttle completely to turn this bike into a street-legal Class 1 eBike in many jurisdictions.

Enjoy The Power Of The Mule Electric Hunting Bike

With a peak power output of 1500 W climbing even steeper hills becomes easy and enjoyable.

You’ll have fun feeling this very responsive and powerful bike underneath you. It’s a real confidence booster knowing that you have these extra muscles to help you tackle even the most challenging and rough terrain or situation that might come your way.

Choose The Right Battery Size For Your Mule Electric Hunting Bike

When buying your brand new Mule Elite electric hunting bike you can choose between different battery sizes that affect the battery life.

The largest one on offer has 48 V and 25 Ah (note: the step-through version of the Mule Elite has a maximum of 21 Ah) which translates into an unbelievable 1,200 Wh, enough to carry you a distance of approx. 60 miles on a single battery charge without any pedaling.

Quick reminder: This calculation is based on the widely accepted assumption that, on average, 1 mile consumes about 20Wh of energy. This is just a rough estimate and the actual energy consumption depends on many different factors such as the weight, the speed, the type of terrain, the wind conditions, etc. Use this formula only to compare the range capabilities of different electric hunting bikes but not to calculate your actual specific ranges.

The Mule Elite has a top speed of 35 mph with a weight of 67 lbs (61 lbs for the Step-Through version) without the battery.

The battery weighs somewhere between 9 lbs 6 oz (14.5Ah) and 12 lbs 2 oz (25Ah).

The Size Of The Mule Electric Hunting Bike

The Mule Elite comes as a step-over and as a step-through allowing even less flexible hunters to enjoy this ride.

The Mule (step-over) comes in one size of 18’’ and a stand-over height of 29.5’’ which makes it the perfect companion for riders of 5’9″ and above (Bakcou says 5.8’’ and above).

If you’re 5’6″ and above, the Mule Step Through with a lower top tube and a stand-over height of only 26’’ might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

The Brakes Of The Mule Electric Hunting Bike

With the powerful Tektro HD E750 Quad Piston Hydraulic brakes, you can also handle steep descents without any worries.

The Fat Tires Of The Mule Electric Hunting Bike

In addition, the Maxxis Minion 26” X 4.0 fat tires give the bike unparalleled traction and control.

The Suspension Of The Mule Electric Hunting Bike

The Mule is a hardtail bike that many hunters like for its simplicity and the ability to pack a lot of weight.

Riding it feels great with quick but predictable handling. The riding experience is a little bit reminiscent of the old cross-country hardtails, if you know what I mean.

It definitely feels nice and with the BCEB GT MRK 100 mm AIR Fork front suspension you will enjoy even longer off-road rides without feeling rattled or shaken up.

The Weight Capacity Of The Mule Best Electric Hunting Bike

The Mule has a load capacity of 300 lbs which is great but it’s even better if you combine that with the “walk-assist” function of this hunting electric bike.

When selecting the walk-assist mode you can walk next to the Mule (with your hands on the handlebar) while the Mule is traveling at around 3 mph carrying all your gear and hauling your hunt.

This is especially handy if you encounter some rough terrain that you’re not comfortable riding through especially if you’re carrying a lot of weight.

The Steel Gearing Of The Mule Electric Hunting Bike

With the 9-speed Shimano gearing you have even more control over the energy and power of this bike, especially in steep terrain.

Finally, I want to point out that instead of Teflon or nylon gearing, the Mule has steel gearing which only underlines the fact that Bakcou has built an amazing electric hunting bike that’s really strong and tough.

What I Like The Most

There are many things I love about the Mule by Bakcou.

I like the powerful ultra mid drive motor and I especially like the walk-assist mode.

What I Like The Least

Warranty is limited to 1 year.

Rambo Nomad Electric Hunting Bike With Mid Drive Motor

Rambo Nomad Electric Bike Review

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

The Nomad electric hunting bike from Rambo is another great bike that was built for the hardcore hunter.

The Frame Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

It comes as a step-over and a step-through eBike, accommodating hunters of different sizes and different flexibility and mobility.

Rambo Nomad Best Mid Drive Electric Hunting Bike

Let’s talk about the mid drive motor and the handling of all that raw power.

Nomad 750 XPC11 (Step-Over) and the Nomad Step Through 750 XPST (Step-Through) both come with the Bafang BBSHD High Torque motor which is an awesome mid drive motor with 750 W nominal power.

Mid drive motors are already my preferred choice for off-roading, especially on sloped terrain as they’re generally superior in their hill climbing capabilities compared to similarly powered rear hub motors.

When you combine the 5 pedal-assist modes and the 11 speed choices of the Shimano gear system you can adjust the level of torque very precisely to match the slope of the terrain.

The Brakes Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

But what if you need to stop urgently or you have a steep descent in front of you?

Unlike many other electric hunting bikes in this price category, the Nomad comes with 180 mm hydraulic disc brakes (front and rear brakes) instead of mechanical ones.

I like these brakes a lot. They have a good bite to them.

I often find that with mechanical disc brakes, you have to monitor and babysit them quite a lot. With hydraulic brakes, you set them once and they work well for quite a long time.

I also like the 180 mm rotors at the front and the rear brakes. These are some good rotors with a fair amount of holes inside them for heat dissipation so you can go downhill and rest on the brakes quite a bit and you’re gonna feel quite relaxed.

The Battery Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

The Nomad electric hunting bike comes equipped with a Samsung 48 V 14 Ah battery which gives you a total of 672 Wh which in turn equals an estimated range of 25 – 30 miles on a single battery charge without pedaling.

(Please note: This is based on the assumption that 1 mile consumes 20Wh in energy, i.e. 672 / 20 = 33.6. However, the energy consumption of the battery depends on many different factors. Your actual mileage might be greater or shorter dependent on these other factors. Please use this formula only to compare different electric hunting bikes but not to calculate your actual mileage.)

The Fat Tires Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

The 26” × 4.0” fat tires are perfect for trails with ruts, rocks, or roots and they’re even snow capable.

The oversized width keeps the bike from catching these hazards that could cause you to lose balance and crash.

Handle Tough Terrain With The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

A strong and solid metal chain guard helps to prevent sticks and other objects close to the ground from interfering with the chain.

The Suspension Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

The Nomad from Rambo Bikes features a GT MRK 860 Air front suspension with pre-load adjustment to smooth out the ride across rugged terrain without too much rattling in your hands and arms.

That’s very useful for hunters with arthritis creeping in, for example.

The Display Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

If you like to be in the know at all times about your current speed, the distance traveled and the range still available you’ll love the LCD color display which is mounted to the handlebar.

It’s a good size with large enough lettering, clear symbols, and good lighting so that even older folks like myself, can read the display without having to put our reading glasses on first.

The Load Capacity Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

Like all Rambo electric hunting bikes, the Nomad has an impressive load capacity of 300 lbs. to carry you and your gear without any problems.

The Throttle Of The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

When you buy your new Nomad electric hunting bike you’ll have a thumb throttle (no twist throttle) which is mounted on the right side of the handlebar.

This throttle has a little spring in it to automatically move back into its original position as soon as you lift your thumb off it.

Using this thumb throttle feels great and more like a 4-wheeler: you simply push the button and go.

If you prefer to have the throttle on the left side of the handlebar that’s no problem either. The throttle can be removed and mounted on the right or left side depending on your personal preferences.

Easily Bring Along Your Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

With a weight of 66 lbs and a compact frame size of 19’’ is easy to transport the Nomad on your pickup truck or SUV with a bike rack.

After each ride, it’s considered good practice to fully recharge your battery which might take 4 – 5 hours. However, Rambo advises its customers not to leave it on the charger for more than 8 hours.

If you store the bike for a few months, a battery charge of up to 70-80% is ideal, according to Rambo.

Things I Didn’t Like With The Nomad Electric Hunting Bike

There are a couple of issues that I didn’t like about the Rambo Nomad.

Firstly, there’s no quick release on the front or the back wheel. Instead, you’d have to remove some axle nuts. I guess this was done to keep the cost down. After all, this lean, mean machine offers huge value for a very reasonable price tag.

Secondly, considering it’s a hunting e-bike I was slightly surprised to find that the rear rack is not automatically included in the regular purchase.

So make sure you order your Rambo Nomad with a rear rack installed for additional tie-down space.

You might also choose the Rambo Triple Accessory Bag which is my personal favorite.

Rambo Rebel Best Electric Hunting Bike With 1000 W

Rambo Rebel 1000w Electric Hunting Bike Review

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

The Rebel 1000 XPC electric hunting bike is the top-of-the-line Rambo ebike.

It’s an impressive high-performance hunting electric bike that’s designed for off-roading and, according to Rambo, made with extreme riders in mind.

The Motor Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

So, it comes as no surprise that the Rebel is fitted with a powerful mid drive motor made by Bafang.

With a continuous power output of an incredible 1000 W and an even more impressive peak power output of 1500 W climbing even steeper hills is no longer a problem.

If you’re looking for a true hill climber you’ve found it in the Rebel 1000 XPC hunting electric bike.

The Gearing Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

The SRAM NX PG-1130 11-42T cassette with 420% of gear range combined with the 11 Speeds SRAM XX1 derailleur gives you a lot of control over this super strong powerhouse, allowing you to fine-tune the performance to accommodate any situation or terrain you might find yourself in.

You can climb super steep hills or go as fast as you want to. The choice is yours and yours alone.

The Load Capacity Of The Rebel Hunting Electric Bike

The Rebel has a load capacity of 300 lbs which is comparable to most bikes on this list.

The Cockpit Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

To control the modes of the motor you have a thumb throttle mounted to the handlebar.

To control and switch the gears you have a twist shifter on the other side of the handlebar.

The Braking System Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

Of course, with a lot of power also comes a lot of responsibility, right?

You don’t just want to be able to accelerate or ascent up a steep slope. You also want to be able to stop quickly or tackle just as steep a descent as well, am I right?

That’s not a problem, considering the Rambo Rebel is equipped with TEKTRO HD-E725 4 Piston Hydraulic brakes with a 203 mm rotor in the front and a 180 mm rotor in the back.

These are the strongest brakes in the Rambo product line and they use them on all of their high-performance electric bikes.

The braking feels strong and easily controllable, giving you the confidence and capabilities you need.

The Battery Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

The Rebel hunting electric bike by Rambo comes with a Samsung 48 V 21 Ah battery. That’s the largest single battery pack with the longest battery life offered in any Rambo bike.

Except for the Megatron 1000 X2WD which has 2 x 17 Ah batteries equalling a total of 34 Ah, there’s no stronger Rambo hunting electric bike available.

48 V and 21 Ah give you a total of 1008 Wh which equals an estimated mileage of 50.4 miles on a single battery charge without any pedaling. (Please note: this estimation is based on the assumption that 1 mile requires 20 Wh of energy.).

Considering that, everything else being equal, your mileage will be significantly greater if you use the pedal-assist mode instead of the throttle-only mode.

No matter where you intend to travel to on your new electric hunting bike, the Rebel can get you there.

The Suspension Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

The Rebel 1000 XPC features inverted forks on the front suspension, which is a more rigid fork allowing for 120 mm of travel.

This translates into a lot of comforts when you’re riding long distances.

it’s also great for hunters with arthritis, for example, that want to minimize the shaking of their hands, wrists, and arms.

The Fat Tires Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

The Rebel has Maxxis Minion 26″ x 4.8” fat tires with a very aggressive tread that can chew through a few inches of snow without any problems.

I love these fat tires. With a width of 4.8’’ they’re wider than the average. This helps add even more stability to this awesome bike.

Fat tire bikes in general also have the benefit that you can inflate and deflate the fat tires according to the terrain you’re riding on.

For off-road riding when you’re hunting, 8 psi or above might be the right setting. Maybe choose 12 psi when in the woods. On roads or paved streets, 28 to 30 psi might be the best choice.

Fat tires also absorb a lot of energy helping to make any ride more comfortable.

The Paint Of The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

TrueTimber Viper Western Camo is ideal if you live in Montana and you want to be able to stash your electric hunting bike away when traveling on public land without it being snatched.

Things I Didn’t Like About The Rebel Electric Hunting Bike

One aspect of the Rebel 1000 XPC I wished Rambo rectified is the fact that this awesome beast only comes in ONE size.

It has a 19-inch frame with a 31-inch stand-over height which makes it suitable for many but not all hunters out there.

I would have wished for a small, medium, and large version to make this the best electric hunting bike for hunters of any size.

Rungu Dualie™ Standard Best 3 Wheel Electric Hunting Bike

Rungu Dualie Standard Electric Hunting Bike Review

Image: ©Rungu Bikes

The Rungu Dualie™ Standard electric hunting bike is the entry-level hunting e bike from Rungu.

Rungu describes it as a Quad ATV inside an ebike package.

It’s a very powerful electric hunting bike that’s ideal for shorter off-road distances (up to 20 miles) to get you from your truck to your viewpoint and back while hauling all your gear and your hunt.

What’s Special About The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

There are many aspects that are quite unique or special about the Rungu Dualie but none are as apparent and obvious as the patented Double Wheel Design at the front. It’s definitely its most impressive component.

The two front wheels are spaced 9 inches apart, making the Rungu Dualie effectively the best electric hunting bike with 3 wheels.

This adds so much balance to this bike that it can actually stand upright on its own without the need for a kickstand.

It also makes riding much safer as the double wheels effectively reduce the chances of a washout or over-the-bar wipeout, an unfortunate event that some of us might have experienced before.

Dominate Any Terrain With The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

The Rungu Dualie Standard performs extremely well on challenging terrains such as slimy mud, sandy ground, soft snow, or rocky and rough terrain.

This is due to the 75/25 weight distribution of the Dualie combined with the wider wheelbase which keeps more traction and grip on the front wheels enabling them to turn even on slippery or softer ground even when going downhill.

This weight distribution also helps the front tires to remain in contact with the ground when riding uphill.

Or, as Rungu puts it, a Rungu Dualie electric hunting bike “Goes Where Others Can’t”.

In fact, they’re so confident about it that they even give a performance guarantee:

Performance Guarantee

“If your Rungu Dualie e-bike doesn’t go where other e-bikes can’t go, we’ll buy it back.”

The Mid Drive Motor Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

The Rungu Dualie Standard hunting e bike is equipped with a powerful Bafang BBSHD mid drive motor. This beast of a machine has 1120 W continuous power output.

Combine the mid drive motor with this whopping power output and you have a real-life hill-climbing monster.

To control all that power you can choose between “pedal assist” or “throttle only” mode.

The Derailleur Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

The standard microSHIFT derailleur further increases the Dualie’s climbing capability with low-end torque.

If that’s not enough for you, you can even upgrade to the same derailleur/cassette/shifter arrangement as the premium XR and Rugged models from Rungu.

Master Hills With The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

With the Rungu Dualie Standard electric bike with 3 wheels you can climb slopes of more than 45% while staying in the saddle. Rungu calls it the “Dualie’s unique “Straight Up” climb-ability”.

This feast requires some real muscle to accomplish. It’s achieved by the 52 V mid drive motor together with a first-gear ratio of 1:1.4 which translates into 203 ft-lbs of torque at the back wheel.

Tackle Any Descents With The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

The Rungu Dualie electric hunting bike descends better, too!

Dualie’s Double Front Wheels control descents better using dual front-wheel disc brakes (Tektro Auriga E-Twin dual hydraulic brakes in the front and the Tektro Auriga E-Tune hydraulic brake in the rear) for twice the stopping power of conventional hunting e-bikes.

With its advantageous weight distribution and its 3-wheel base, it makes difficult descents on slippery terrain much more manageable and helps to prevent washouts and wipeouts.

The Load Capacity Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

As you would expect from a premium electric hunting bike, the Dualie has a corrosion-resistant aircraft hand-welded 6061-T6 aluminum frame that has a load capacity of up to 325 lbs.

That’s definitely enough to carry you and all your hunting gear comfortably to your destination.

The Frame Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

In 2022 Rungu introduced a new Integrated Frame housing the electric battery in the frame itself.

This increases motor clearance to 10 inches and reduces the overall weight of this awesome bike by almost two pounds while not changing any ride characteristics you would expect from a Rungu Dualie hunting e-bike.

The Weight Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

With 86 lbs, the Rungu Dualie Standard is the lightest electric hunting bike from Dualie.

Stay Legal With The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

When ordering your new Rungu Dualie Standard you can choose between the Class 1, Class 2, or the “Off-road only” version. This depends largely on where you live and what the legal requirements are in the jurisdiction(s) where you plan on riding your Rungu Dualie hunting electric bike.

Stay On The Right Side Of The Law

Rungu does a great job assisting the hunter to stay on the right side of the law.

  • The Off-road version features: Full Power (Recommended), Pedal Assist (PAS), and thumb throttle activated.
  • As a Class 1 electric hunting bike, the Rungu Dualie Standard has no throttle. Its Pedal Assist (PAS) Power output is limited to 749 W and its speed is limited to 20 mph.
  • As a Class 2 electric hunting bike, the Rungu Dualie Standard is equipped with a throttle. Its PAS Power output is limited to 749 W and its top speed is limited to 20 mph.

Look Good On Your Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

The Rungu Dualie Standard comes with 3 color options:

  • Midnight Black
  • Winter Slate
  • Forest Green

to blend in perfectly with the environment where you intend to use it.

The Fat Tires Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

For even better control on soft surfaces (mud/snow/sand), the Rungu Dualie Standard comes equipped with Maxxis Minion FBF/FBR fat tires.

The Skid Plate Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

The Rungu Dualie Standard comes without a skid plate which is fine if you don’t need one. However, how about protecting your motor and at the same time also stashing some tools? Not a problem with the new integrated skid plate/bash guard.

If you want one, you can easily add it to your electric hunting bike when placing your order.

The Mudguards Of The Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

The Rungu Dualie Standard comes without any mudguards. I guess not everybody needs mudguards depending on the terrain you’re riding on.

If you want to protect your bike and yourself from the mud and water spray you can easily add mudguards to your electric hunting bike when placing your order.

What Else Is Included With Your Rungu Dualie™ Standard Electric Hunting Bike

When you purchase your Rungu Dualie Standard you also get

  • 5A battery charger
  • 10-piece hex wrench set
  • battery access keys
  • Presta valve adapters (3).

QuietKat Ranger Electric Hunting Bike

QuietKat Ranger Electric Hunting Bike Review

Image: ©QuietKat

Depending on your requirements, the QuietKat Ranger could be the electric hunting bike for you.

It’s very easy to operate which makes it especially suited for hunters with little or no experience in using an electric hunting bike.

750 Watt Or 1000 Watt

It comes with two different motor options: a 750 Watt and a 1000 W rear hub motor..

To stay compliant with the law, the 750 W rear wheel drive model has a top speed of 20 mph while the 1000 W motor is “unrestricted”.

Hub motors are sometimes not that good at ascending but the QuietKat Ranger has proven itself to be a great hill climber. Even with the 750 W motor, it was able to climb 30-degree climbs without blinking an eye. The Tektro two-piston mechanical disc brakes and large 203 mm rotors give confidence when tackling steeper descends, too.

Move Quietly As A Cat

As the name suggests, the QuietKat Ranger moved across bumpy or rough terrain without any groans or squeaks that could give away your presence to the animals around.

Carry Your Riffle

It has also proven itself to be a great means to carry your rifle without losing the zero.

325 Lbs Load Capacity

With an outstanding load capacity of 325 lbs the QuietKat Ranger is perfect to carry you and your hunting gear to and from your tree stand on a comfortable ride.

Front Fork Suspension

When you need to ride over some uneven terrain (as you probably will most of the time) the strong 100 Quietkat Ranger Off-Road Electric Hunting Bike 750 And 1000 Reviewmm Mozo Coil Front Fork Suspension with 100 mm of travel will make the ride much smoother and more comfortable.

Fat Tire Bikes

The 24’’ x 4’’ (small frame size) or 26’’ x 4.5’’ (medium and large frame size) fat tires will also play their part in making that ride smoother and easier to balance even on rough terrains.

7-Speed Shimano

If you need to fine-tune the power you require, the 7-speed Shimano manual derailleur with mechanical gears is there to achieve just that.

48 V And 12.8 Ah Battery

For longer hunting trips the 48 V and 12.8 Ah battery of the QuietKat Ranger electric hunting bike provides you with a total of 614 Wh.

30 Miles Range

That’s enough to give you a theoretical range of up to 30 miles on a single battery charge without pedaling at all.

And if you use the motor and battery more wisely your QuietKat Ranger hunting e Bike will carry you over an even greater distance.

Small, Medium, And Large Frames

I especially like the fact that QuietKat has decided to offer the Ranger electric hunting bike in 3 different frame sizes to accommodate hunters of different sizes.

You can choose between the Small (15.5’’), Medium (17’’), and Large (19’’) frame sizes.

Each frame size has a different stand-over height as well: 26.5’’ (Small), 29.5’’ (Medium), and 30.5’’ (Large).

Verdict

If you’re looking for an easy-to-operate yet powerful rear wheel drive hunting electric bike that moves quietly and can carry up to 325 lbs in weight, the QuietKat Ranger could be the best electric hunting bike for you.

QuietKat Apex Best Hardtail Electric Hunting Bike

QuietKat Apex Electric Hunting Bike Review

Image: ©QuietKat

The Apex is QuietKat’s most powerful hardtail electric hunting bike.

It features all the highest-end components you’d expect from a QuietKat hunting electric bike but in the “hardtail” version.

So, if you like the quality of QuietKat electric hunting bikes but you prefer a hardtail hunting eBike then the Apex might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

750 W And 1000 W Bafang Mid Drive Motors

You can choose between 2 mid drive motors: the 750 W and 1000 W Bafang mid drive motors.

The 1000 W model is intended to be used mostly on private land while the 750 W model is intended to qualify as a Class 2 eBike. For that reason, the 1000 W Apex has no speed limitations while the 750 W version has its top speed limited to 20mph.

Thumb Throttle

Both models are controlled via a thumb throttle that can even be removed completely, allowing you, the hunter, to turn your Apex electric hunting bike not just into a Class 2 but also into a Class 1 e-bike.

I think that’s a great feature, allowing for a tremendous amount of flexibility.

Beginner-Friendly Mid Drive Motor

While mid drive motors are generally more demanding to ride, the Apex has a great feature that makes it much more beginner friendly to use.

When shifting gears, the torque sensor picks up that change, cuts the motor for a split second, and allows the bike to shift gears under much less power.

That’s a very important improvement that can significantly reduce the learning curve for hunters that are new to electric hunting bikes.

Great For Climbing Hills

Like all QuietKat hunting eBikes, the Apex is designed to offer great utility and great power when riding off-road and on private land. The Apex by QuietKat is not just a great hill climber. It actually excels at hill climbing.

Great Range And Flexibility

You can ride the Apex in two different modes: Eco-Mode and Sport-Mode.

With 5 levels of pedal assist in each mode, the Apex gives you effectively 10 different motor settings to tackle any situation you might come across on your hunting trips.

Combine that with the very capable SRAM X5 derailleur with a nine-speed cassette and you can take full advantage of the entire range of gears.

Just imagine how you can produce maximum torque even at lower speeds to get you and your cargo up and down steep mountain trails without difficulties.

Walk-Assist Mode

If you prefer to haul your cargo across too-challenging terrain on foot, QuietKat’s “walk-assist” mode is perfect for you. You can walk while the Apex is doing all the hard work for you.

Battery And Range

The Apex 750 W electric hunting bike has a battery with 48 V and 16 Ah which results in a total of 768 Wh.

The Apex 1000 W electric hunting bike even has a battery with 52 V and 17.5 Ah resulting in a whopping 910 Wh.

This gives you a theoretical range of approximately 38.4 and 45.5 miles respectively (if we assume that 1 mile consumes 20 Wh of energy).

Considering you can significantly extend that range by using the motor only when you really need it, it’s definitely more than enough for most hunting trips.

Tektro 4-Piston Hydraulic Brakes

But the Apex doesn’t just have a lot of power to move it also is dominant when it comes to stopping. That’s because it’s equipped with incredibly strong Tektro 4-Piston hydraulic brakes that also allow you to tackle steeper descents.

Inverted Front Suspension

Another very noteworthy difference of the QuietKat Apex is its front suspension.

Unlike many other premium electric hunting bikes, the Apex features an Inverted Adjustable Air Suspension Fork (also known as a Moto-style fork) with 150 mm travel.

What is it and why is it important?

Unlike a regular suspension fork, an inverted one has the bigger stanchions nearer to the handlebar and the smaller stanchions nearer to the axle of the front wheel.

This setup dramatically increases the amount of control hunters have over the performance of their bike; especially when riding very fast and on bumpy terrain or around corners.

3 Different Frame Sizes

The QuietKat Apex comes in three different frame sizes. That’s great news because it allows you to find the right electric hunting bike for your body measurements.

  • The SMALL frame is 15.5’’ and has a Stand Over Height of 26.5’’.
  • The MEDIUM frame is 17’’ and has a Stand Over Height of 29.5’’.
  • The LARGE frame is 19’’ and has a Stand Over Height of 30.5’’.

Fat Tire Bikes

The small frame size comes with high-quality 24’’ x 4’’ fat tires while the medium and large size frames are fitted with 26’’ x 4.5’’ fat tires.

These very capable fat tires enable the QuietKat Apex to tackle rough terrains such as soft sand or snow and even hard-pack trails and rocks.

Mountain Bike Style Handlebars

Wider handlebars more commonly found on mountain bikes also add to a more stable ride.

325 Lbs Load Capacity

Not surprisingly with the Apex electric hunting bike by QuietKat, you can carry more gear even when you climb hills. A load capacity of 325 lbs is definitely more than enough for most hunters.

Integrated Rear Rack

I really like the fact that QuietKat equipped the Apex hunting eBike with an integrated rear rack.

Because it’s integrated into the frame it’s a lot sturdier and can carry up to 100 lbs of stuff. But it’s also designed to keep that weight centered right on top of the rear wheel axis which makes it much easier to control for the hunter, especially on difficult terrain.

Verdict

If you want a bike that can help you haul a lot of cargo across challenging terrain the Apex might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

RadRover 6 Plus Electric Hunting Bike

RAD Power Bikes RadRover 6 Plus Electric Fat Tire Bike Review

Image: ©RAD Power Bikes

The RAD Power Bikes RadRover 6 Plus fat tire eBike is the successor of the very popular RadRover 5 Plus and most definitely RAD Power Bikes’ best electric hunting bike so far.

A Class 2 eBike

RAD Power Bikes ships the RadRover 6 Plus as a Class 2 ebike with a grip twist throttle and a top speed limited to 20 mph. That’s great news if you intend to ride your electric hunting bike not just on private land.

As a Class 2 eBike it’s also equipped with a strong 750 W hub motor that’s been designed by Rad Power Bikes in-house.

7 Gear System

The hub motor works together with a 7-gear system controlled by a 7-speed thumb shifter and connected with a 42-tooth chain ring. Giving you 5 levels of pedal assist together with 12 magnet cadence sensors resulting in more torque even when riding more slowly.

As a result, this awesome rear wheel drive electric hunting bike really loves to climb. In fact, when testing it, even a 15-degree incline was no match for the RadRover 6 Plus by RAD Power Bikes.

Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Complementing the powerful motor are equally capable hydraulic-disc brakes that have a really good bite.

Fat Tires And Rims

The RadRover 6 Plus by RAD Power Bikes has double-wall aluminum alloy rims with 36 holes and a width of 75 mm.

I especially like the fact that RAD Power Bikes chose the fat tires by Kenda Juggernaut 26″ x 4″ that also include the K-Shield puncture-resistant liner. That’s a big plus when riding in the backcountry where you don’t want to end up with a flat tire.

Front Suspension

The front suspension with 60 mm travel coupled with a good quality ergonomic seat make your ride with this hardtail electric hunting bike smooth and comfortable.

That comfort is further enhanced by the 700 mm wide handlebar that also has a 4-inch rise keeping your neck and back in a more upright and relaxed position, especially on longer rides.

48 V 14 Ah Battery

Speaking of longer rides, the RadRover 6 Plus by RAD Power Bikes is equipped with a 48 V 14 Ah semi-integrated battery offering you a total of 672 Wh of energy.

25 – 45 Miles Range

With it, you should expect to be able to ride for up to 25-45 miles per battery charge which is plenty and more than enough for many hunting use cases.

If you need more range for a single trip, just remember to bring a second battery along for the ride.

But, the RadRover 6 Plus hunting electric bike by RAD Power Bikes also has its limitations.

275 Lbs Load Capacity

It has a load capacity of 275 lbs which is less than most other electric hunting bikes on this list.

So, if you need to carry more weight than that regularly I recommend you use a trailer to haul your additional stuff.

High Step And Step Through Models

The RadRover 6 Plus electric hunting bike by RAD Power Bikes comes in 2 versions:

A High Step and a Step Through model.

RAD Power Bikes recommends the RadRover 6 Plus for hunters with a body height of 5’2″ – 6’2” and a leg inseam between 30.5’’ – 36.5’ for the High Step model and a leg inseam between 25”-33.5” for the Step Through model.

Verdict

If you’re looking for an economical way to improve your hunting trips the RadRover 6 Plus by RAD Power Bikes might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

You can learn more by reading my RadRover 6 Plus review.

The Cockpit

The motor is controlled via a thumb throttle that can be mounted on either side of the PROMAX 770 mm wide handlebar to suit your personal needs.

The latter can also be adjusted slightly forward or backward to accommodate different hunters with different arm lengths.

Internal Hub System

The Rambo Bushwacker electric hunting bike features the 5-speed Sturmey-Archer internal hub that protects your ebike and your chain.

300 Lbs Load Capacity

Like many other hunting electric bikes on this list, the Rambo Bushwacker 750W XPC has a load capacity of 300 lbs which is a lot. By adding one of the many trailers offered by Rambo you can even haul more weight than that which is absolutely awesome.

Single Frame Size

The Rambo Bushwacker electric hunting bike comes in a single frame size of 19” and a Stand Over Height of 30”.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a powerful mid drive bike that was purposely built to give the hunter an edge and that’s also street-legal in many jurisdictions, the Rambo Bushwacker 750W XPC might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

Rambo Megatron Electric Hunting Bike

Rambo Megatron Electric Bike Review

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

The Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD is the flagship electric hunting bike from Rambo.

Dual Hub Motors

It’s Rambo’s only All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) dual hub motors hunting electric bike.

Being an All-Wheel-Drive, the Megatron features not just one but TWO powerful Bafang 1000 Watt hub motors.

The Megatron is so powerful you can only ride it on private land or in areas where it can be ridden legally, for example in areas where motorized vehicles are permitted.

Each of these motors has a peak power output of 1500 W giving you access to an unbelievable 3000 W of combined power.

So, it’s no surprise that the Megatron 1000 X2WD is perfect for hauling you and your cargo up and down any kind of hilly or rough terrain.

The Megatron can climb steep paths, ride through deep snow or loose terrain such as sandy beaches with unbelievable ease.

If you’re ice fishing or late-season hunting and you have fresh snow it’s good to know that this amazing electric hunting bike can handle snow from several inches up to a foot deep without any problems.

You control the motors with a thumb throttle and it’s recommended to ride the Megatron 1000 X2WD in either “Throttle Only” or cadence-sensing “Pedal Assist” mode.

Because of its tremendous power, the Megatron hunting electric bike is a single-speed ebike with no gearing and no derailleur that lets you easily switch between an All-Wheel drive mode and a “Rear Hub Motor Only” or “Front Hub Motor Only” mode.

Tektro HD-E725 4 Piston Hydraulic Brakes

While you have a lot of control over the amount of power you get from the motors, the Megatron electric hunting bike also has tremendous stopping powers.

This hunting beast is equipped with Tektro HD-E725 4 Piston hydraulic brakes at the front and rear wheel. A 203 mm rotor sits at the front while the rear brake has a 180 mm rotor.

But Rambo added not just super powerful brakes but also motor inhibitors to the Megatron electric hunting bike. Every time you hit the brakes, the two motors also instantly shut off temporarily to let the brakes do their work and increase efficiency. Awesome, isn’t it?

Front Suspension With Rebound Damping Adjustment

The Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD is a hardtail bike with a very effective GT MRK 355 Air 26 front suspension fork.

This is no ordinary fork suspension either. It has 120 mm of travel and something called Rebound Damping Adjustment (RDA). RDA allows the shock absorbers to quickly return to their original position to be ready to absorb the next bump thereby making your hunting trip that much smoother.

The fat tires also contribute to a superior riding experience.

300 Lbs Load Capacity With Medium Frame Size

The Megatron is so powerful, Rambo replaced the regular chainring with an extra-strong Rambo Custom Built 36T Narrow Wide chainring instead.

With all that whopping power and a load capacity of up to 300 lbs, you can reach a top speed of 28 mph and easily carry more gear even on loose terrain or when climbing hills.

Having 2 very strong motors, the Megatron 1000 X2WD also has 2 powerful batteries. Each battery has 48 V and 17 Ah making you the captain of a total of 34 Ah – awesome.

With that, a range of up to 80 miles on a single battery charge is more than achievable.

The Megatron 1000 X2WD electric hunting bike features a “medium” frame size of 19.7″ and a Stand Over Height of 31.6”.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a powerhouse of a hunting eBike that can more or less get you and your hunting gear anywhere you want then the Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

Rambo Pursuit Electric Hunting Bike

Rambo Pursuit R750 G3 Electric Bike Review

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

The Rambo Pursuit 750 26 electric hunting bike is another great addition to our list.

For starters, the Pursuit is more affordable than many other premium Rambo hunting eBikes.

At the same time it has been on the market for several years and put to the test by many hunters. Rambo has used their feedback to continuously upgrade and further improve the Pursuit to make it the excellent electric hunting bike it is today.

Bafang BBS02 750 W Motor

This awesome bike is equipped with the powerful Bafang BBS02 750 W High Torque mid drive motor.

With an impressive peak power rating of 1000 W and up to 120 Nm of torque the Rambo Pursuit 750 26 electric hunting bike certainly delivers.

It’s an efficient hill climber and certainly enjoys riding on rough and challenging terrains.

Logan HD-E500 2 Piston Hydraulic Brakes

The strong motor moves you smoothly through the backcountry while the very capable Logan HD-E500 2 Piston Hydraulic brakes let you stop whenever you want or need to.

These brakes are fully adjustable and come with 180 mm rotor discs both in the front and the rear.

I love the fact that Rambo equipped the Pursuit with hydraulic brakes because it gives the hunter more confidence and makes tackling more challenging descents also that much easier.

With the Rambo Pursuit 750 26 electric hunting bike you can enjoy hunting, fishing and even camping in the woods or the backcountry.

26″ x 4.0” Fat Tires

The Pursuit features Kenda Krusade Anti-Puncture 26″ x 4.0” fat tires and double wall rims w/o holes and 80 mm width.

These fat tires make off-road riding more balanced and stable. They offer convincing traction and are superior to more traditional thin-walled tires.

Front Fork Suspension

Since 2021, Rambo equips the Pursuit 750 26 electric hunting bike with a front fork suspension. The addition of the GT MRK coil front fork suspension certainly improves the overall riding experience for the hunter who is mostly riding across more rugged terrain.

Internal Gear Hub

As a hunter you’ll also benefit from having an internal gear hub.

The Shimano 8 Speed Gear Box system is a superior gearing system with no derailleur that could get tangled up with sticks or other types of debris when scouting the backcountry.

48 V 14 AH Battery With 33.6 Miles Range

With the frame-integrated 48 V 14 AH battery, the Rambo Pursuit gives you access to a total of 672 Wh.

This translates to an estimated range of 33.6 miles (1 mile = 20Wh) on a single battery charge without having to pedal.

This is very much comparable to many other premium electric hunting bikes.

Of course, you can easily extend the range by using the motor only when you need to or by bringing a second battery along with you.

300 Lbs Load Capacity

The Rambo Pursuit has a maximum load capacity of 300 lbs which is the same for all premium electric hunting bikes by Rambo.

Of course, you can also add one of the great trailers offered by Rambo to haul even more cargo if you want or need to.

Single Size Electric Hunting Bike

The Pursuit hunting electric bike comes in a single frame size of 19” and a Stand Over height of 29”.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a true hunting companion that’s both powerful and affordable the Rambo Pursuit 750 26 might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

The Rambo Prowler 1000 XPE electric hunting bike is another great contender.

1000 W Bafang Ultra Motor

The Prowler hunting eBike is equipped with the powerful Bafang 1000 W Ultra Mid Drive motor. This beast has 1000 W of nominal wattage and a peak rating of 1500 W.

This powerful motor produces up to 160 Nm of torque and allows the Prowler to dominate any terrain you choose.

The Rambo Prowler 1000 XPE electric hunting bike is also more efficient with battery life due to its super smooth and effective torque sensor.

Climbing even steeper hills is no longer a challenge with the impressive Prowler hunting electric bike.

Tektro HD-E725 4 Piston Hydraulic Brakes

The immense power of the Prowler is controlled by very capable Tektro HD-E725 4 Piston Hydraulic brakes in the front and the rear. The front brake has a 203 mm rotor and the rear brake has a 180 mm rotor.

Hydraulic brakes are my personal favorites because they’re very strong, require less maintenance, and allow you to tackle steep descents with confidence.

Fat Tires

With Maxxis Minion FBF 27.5″ x 3.8” fat tires in the front and Maxxis Minion FBR 27.5″ x 3.8” fat tires in the rear you have great traction even on slippery or loose terrain.

These fat tires also provide extra cushioning should you ride over more bumpy ground.

The fat tires are protected by 70 mm wide double wall rims w/o holes.

Inverted Fork Suspension

The fully adjustable GT860 Inverted Air Fork Suspension with 120 mm of travel adds to the comfort of your ride and allows you to hunt on more challenging terrains without any problems.

300 Lbs Load Capacity

Like many of its competitors, the Rambo Prowler 1000 XPE electric hunting bike has a load capacity of 300 lbs.

Should you need to haul more weight than that, Rambo also offers a whole variety of useful attachments like a great rear rack and a strong trailer.

48 V and 17 AH Battery With 40.8 Miles Range

The Prowler 1000 XPE hunting electric bike has a frame-integrated Samsung battery with 48 V and 17 AH.

This lockable and removable battery provides you with 816 Wh. That’s enough for a range of 40.8 miles on a single battery charge (without pedaling) if we assume that 1 mile traveled requires 20 Wh.

Enviolo Hub System

Rambo equipped the Prowler 1000 XPE with the KT-M0CF 150mm sealed front hub and the Enviolo CVT rear hub.

I love the Enviolo rear gear hub because of its continuously variable transmission system which gives the hunter infinite gear settings to tackle any terrain with the right amount of power.

With the Enviolo Hub changing gears feels more like riding a motorcycle. While you would briefly take your “foot off the gas” to shift gears, the Enviolo hub briefly locks the gearing whenever the drive train is under stress.

Single Frame Size Weighing 70 Lbs

The Rambo Prowler 1000 XPE electric hunting bike comes in a single frame size of 19.7″ with a Stand Over Height of 32.8″. This makes it a great fit for hunters with many different body heights and leg lengths.

Weighing a total of 70 lbs the Rambo Prowler 1000 XPE hunting electric bike is slightly heavier than other Rambo electric hunting bikes but it’s still very easy to transport to and from your drop-off point just using your truck.

You can learn more in my Rambo Prowler review.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a powerful ultra mid drive hunting companion that also proved a smooth riding experience, the Rambo Prowler 1000 XPE might be the best electric hunting bike for you.

Rungu Rubicon Electric Hunting Bike

Rungu Dualie XR Rubicon Electric Hunting Bike Review

Image: ©Rungu Bikes

The Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition electric hunting bike was named after the world-famous Rubicon Trail.

Patented Double Wheel Design

Its most outstanding feature is, of course, the patented Double Wheel design at the front.

While they might look unusual at first, the double front wheels don’t just improve stability but also perform outstandingly on very difficult terrains such as loose sand or soft snow that regular bikes might find difficult or even impossible to handle.

In fact, the Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition is so balanced, it doesn’t even need a kickstand. How awesome is that?

Thanks to that incredible balance you, the hunter, can tackle difficult objects more confidently and more slowly without the fear of falling.

Straight Up Climb Ability

The Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition electric hunting bike is so great at climbing that it can handle grades of more than 50% which is the equivalent of “Grade 2” of the climbing rating system. Rungu calls it the “Straight Up Climb Ability”.

1120 Watt Bafang BBSHD Motor

This incredible result is achieved with the very powerful Bafang BBSHD 1120 W (G310.1000) mid drive motor and an optimal “75/25” weight distribution that allows the front tires to stay on the ground when going uphill.

But the Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition hunting electric bike also handles corners exceptionally well. This is possible thanks to the 2 front wheels being positioned with the perfect distance between them and a unique steering setup that allows both front wheels to track like a regular bike.

So, it comes as no surprise to hear that many hunters also use their Dualie XR Rubicon electric hunting bike to commute to and from work or to simply cruise around town for fun.

Twice The Stopping Power With Dual Hydraulic Brakes

The Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition electric hunting bike is also superior in handling steeper descents because of the dual front-wheel disc brakes which provide twice the stopping power of conventional e-bikes.

The front brakes have 203 mm rotors while the dual hydraulic brakes in the rear have a 180 mm rotor.

What’s more, all rotors are electronically integrated with the motor for even more control.

Double Front Suspension Fork

Apart from very impressive power and control, the Dualie XR Rubicon also impresses with an outstanding suspension system.

Each front wheel is equipped with its own custom GTMRK fat tire suspension fork with 100 mm of travel.

On top of that, each front wheel has more than three inches of independent suspension travel.

In total, this awesome suspension system combined with the fat tires gives you a very smooth and comfortable hunting experience even if you’re riding over scree and rocky terrain.

Patented Handlebar And Steering System

Adding 2 front wheels also meant that Rungu had to re-invent the handlebar – and so they did!

The Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition electric hunting bike has a handlebar for each front wheel. These handlebars work in perfect harmony together and from the point of view of the hunter, they feel like a single handlebar. But “under the hood” it’s what allows this ingenious and patented dual-handlebar steering system to work so incredibly well.

Dual Batteries

When it comes to superlatives, the Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition electric hunting bike doesn’t disappoint. It has not just one but TWO batteries, each with 52 V and 17.5 Ah.

This provides you access to an unbelievable 1872 Wh with which you have a theoretical range of an unheard of 93.6 miles (assuming that 1 mile = 20 Wh). And if you use a lower level of pedal assist you can extend that range even further.

350 Lbs Load Capacity

Finally, the Dualie XR Rubicon also impresses with a superior load capacity of 350 lbs which puts it into the top range of premium electric hunting bikes.

For a more comprehensive view please read my Rungu Dualie XR Rubicon review.

Verdict

So, if you’re looking for a very balanced and extremely powerful hill climber with an exceptional range and load capacity, the Dualie XR Rubicon Trail Edition could be the best electric hunting bike for you.

Bakcou Storm Electric Hunting Bike

Bakcou Storm Electric Hunting Bike Review

Image: ©Bakcou

The Bakcou Storm electric hunting bike is basically the full suspension version of the very popular Bakcou Mule hunting electric bike upgraded with a few additional extras. It’s Bakcou’s high-performance hunting eBike and it has been the best-selling full-suspension, fat tire electric hunting bike for several years.

The full suspension of the Storm electric hunting bike gives the hunter a much smoother and more pleasant ride and hunting experience even on very rugged or gnarly terrain.

The Bakcou Storm features the RST Renegade Fork in the front and the Rockshox Monarch suspension in the rear.

This suspension system doesn’t just make your ride much more comfortable. It’s also fully customizable to fit your weight and individual riding style.

Fat Tire Bikes

The Maxxix Minion 26” X 4.0” fat tires do their part to make your ride that much more comfortable as well.

1000 Watt Bafang Ultra Motor

At its core, the Bakcou Storm electric hunting bike is powered by the Bafang G620 ULTRA mid drive motor. This behemoth has an average power output of 1000 W and a peak performance of 1500 W.

With an impressive 160 Nm of torque, the Bakcou Storm can haul you and your gear to any hunting destination.

Thanks to its many sensors

  • a speed sensor,
  • a cadence sensor,
  • a shift sensor,
  • a brake sensor and
  • a torque sensor

the Storm electric hunting bike always provides you with just the right amount of power.

Tektro Dorado HD E750 Quad Piston Hydraulic Brakes

This power is being controlled by the very capable Tektro Dorado HD E750 Quad Piston Hydraulic brakes. These brakes come with 203 mm rotors in the front and rear allowing you to stop when you need to.

Shimano Alivio All Metal Gearing System

The Bakcou Storm hunting electric bike has a 150mm Thru Axle Front Hub and a 3/8x 26 tpi 190mm rear hub and features the same 9-speed heavy-duty Shimano Alivio all metal gearing system as the Mule and the Flatlander electric bikes by Bakcou.

The 40-front chainring and the 11 x 34 rear cassette are also awesome additions that come in very handy, especially if you want to climb some hills.

Four Different Battery Options

As its power source, the Bakcou Storm electric hunting bike comes with a 48 V lithium-ion cell battery for which you can select either 17.5 AH, 19.2 AH, 21 AH, or even 25 AH.

Depending on your selection you’ll have access to an impressive 840 Wh, 921.6 Wh, 1008 Wh, or 1200 Wh respectively. This translates into a theoretical range of 42 miles, 46.08 miles, 50.4 miles, or 60 miles respectively (if 1 mile = 20 Wh) on a single battery charge in throttle-only mode.

That’s definitely sufficient for most hunting trips but remember you can easily extend that range even further by using a lower level of pedal assist and by bringing a second battery along with you.

300 Lbs Load Capacity

Like all other Bakcou premium electric hunting bikes the Storm also has a load capacity of 300 lbs.

If that’s not enough for your needs, Bakcou offers a whole range of different trailers, including single wheel trailers and cargo trailers.

I personally am particularly fond of the folding deer trailer.

You can learn more with my Bakcou Storm review.

Verdict

So, if you want a full suspension fat tire electric hunting bike with ultra mid drive motor that’s very customizable, the Bakcou Storm could be the best electric hunting bike for you.

Useful Background Information About Electric Hunting Bikes

Best Electric Bikes For Hunting Reviews Additional Information

Image: ©Bakcou

Apart from the different selection criteria we’ve discussed earlier the following background information might also help you decide which is the right electric hunting bike for you.

How We Decided On Our Selection Of The Best Electric Hunting Bike

We made our selection based on several different additional factors.

  • We looked at watt hours (Wh) to estimate the hunting ebike’s range.
  • We looked at the type of motor (mid drive, ultra mid drive, or dual hub motors, for example) and the peak power output it can produce to determine the hill climbing potential and capabilities of each electric hunting bike.
  • We looked at torque to determine the overall responsiveness and the off-road capabilities.
  • We looked at safety features such as hydraulic or mechanical disc brakes.
  • We’ve also taken into account the overall load capacity and special features like the “walk-assist” and pedal assist function.

This data provided a baseline for our selection process.

We then looked at other features each electric bike offered to gain a deeper understanding of which electric hunting bikes were best for a specific task or hunting environment.

Finally, we put everything together and evaluated it in relation to the price.

As I mentioned at the beginning, even though I have access to a few different ebikes I cannot purchase every single electric bike on the market. Therefore, I cannot base my selection solely on my own experience and opinion alone. Instead, I have conducted thorough research that I believe is transparent and helpful to you, my readers.

What Makes These Electric Bikes Perfect For Hunting/Fishing/Camping?

Best Electric Bike For Hunting Fishing Camping

Image: ©Bakcou

The short answer is: the unique capabilities that only an electric hunting bike brings to the table.

An electric bike can do everything a regular human-powered bicycle can do and much much more.

Electric bikes can even do things that an ATV or UTV can’t like having access to non-motorized trails in many jurisdictions or getting you and your gear through dense vegetation.

Electric hunting bikes fill a gap that existed beforehand and more and more hunters, fishers, campers, and other outdoor enthusiasts are joining the quickly growing fan community.

  • Hunting electric bikes can get you deeper into the wilderness to reach those most valuable hunting, fishing, or camping locations with the best wildlife and sceneries that are not yet overrun by other hunters, anglers, or campers.
  • Electric hunting bikes are the perfect companion regardless of whether you’re traveling with your truck or your RV.
  • They are relatively lightweight and very easy to bring along and they’re ready at a moment’s notice to get you to those places your truck or RV cannot.
  • They’re perfect for day trips or just for traveling between your hunting, fishing, or camping site and your truck or drop-off point.
  • They allow you to travel faster and further while bringing along more gear than you could have on a traditional bicycle.
  • They are a more relaxing and environmentally-friendly way to travel as they don’t produce loud noise or exhaust fumes.
  • They make your travel more enjoyable as you’ll feel more in harmony with nature and wildlife.
  • With great suspension, fat tires, an outstanding weight capacity to carry more gear, and powerful electric motors to climb hills or traverse across rough terrains to get to your tree stand these bikes are the perfect hunting companion.

What Are The Best Hunting eBike Brands?

Best Electric Hunting Bike Brands

Image: ©Electric Hunting Bike

There are approx 200 different ebike brands on the market today.

A percentage of those also offer ebikes with good off-road capabilities.

An even smaller number of brands offer electric bikes that are purposely built with hunting needs in mind.

A small percentage of those are what I’d call premium brands that are leading the industry.

They include (in alphabetical order) brands like

  • Bakcou
  • Bikonit
  • Emojo
  • Fission
  • Himiway
  • QuietKat
  • RAD Power Bikes
  • Rambo
  • Rungu.

Electric Hunting Bike Vs ATV (All-Terrain-Vehicle)

Earlier I’ve already mentioned how an electric bike can complement hunting with an ATV.

Both modes of transportation have their unique strengths and weaknesses and I see them more as complementing each other rather than competing with each other.

  • So, the question is not what is the best electric hunting bike to replace an ATV.
  • The question is also NOT whether you should buy an ATV OR an electric bike for hunting.
  • The question is WHEN do you want to use an ATV and when do you want to use a hunting e-bike?

One scenario I’ve already mentioned is access to the more remote and as a hunter probably more promising areas of backcountry or wilderness. The more untouched locations probably offer more wildlife since fewer humans have entered them before.

But these locations are untouched for the very reason that they’re more difficult to access. In some jurisdictions, this can be because motorist vehicles are prohibited. More often than not it’s the dense terrain that makes access with an ATV impractical or impossible.

In these scenarios, an eBike can save the day and grant you access to unbelievable hunting grounds.

Just imagine how happy you’d feel if you encountered such a situation and all you’d have to do is leave your ATV, unmount your hunting e-bike and ride into the sunset…

ATVs can do many things but they can’t get you close to your prey without being noticed and spooking the animal. If you’re a still hunter trying to sneak into the habitat of some impressive deer, elk, or bear an ATV is of little use to you.

Here, an electric bike for hunting really shines. It can get you so much closer to the animal than you thought possible. Not only can you approach your hunting areas without alarming the elk, for example, you can also recover huge elk with ease and in one single trip after a successful hunt.

Frequently Asked Questions About Electric Hunting Bikes

Electric Hunting Bike Frequently Asked Questions

Image: ©QuietKat

Whenever people talk to me about electric hunting bikes there are a few questions that always come up again and again. You might have some of those questions as well.

That’s why I’ve listed a few of the more common questions in the next section together with some short and distinct answers.

How Fast Does A 1000w Electric Bike Go?

The short answer is: pretty fast and maybe roughly 35 mph on flat terrain.

The long answer is that this is one of those questions that’s a little tricky to answer decisively and clearly by giving you a specific number.

The top speed of an electric bike for hunting depends not just on the wattage of the motor but also on numerous other factors such as the weight you’re carrying with you, the weight of the bike itself including the battery, the road conditions, or the terrain you’re riding on, the steepness of the ground, the current wind conditions, etc.

Similarly to the mileage or range of a hunting electric bike, I can only give you some general guidelines that can help you rank or differentiate the speed capabilities of different electric hunting bikes.

1000 W hunting e-bikes are certainly at the stronger end of the spectrum. While there are a few smaller electric hunting bikes with 500 W, most have either 750 W or 1000 W.

Think of 750 W as the equivalent of 1 horsepower, which doesn’t sound like a lot but on a bike you’ll feel pretty powerful.

How Fast Does A 500W Electric Bike Go?

The short answer is: quite fast and maybe roughly 25mph on flat terrain.

For the long answer please see my answer to the previous question “How fast does a 1000W electric bike go?”.

For an electric hunting bike 500 W is definitely the lowest you should go.

If you are a beginner ebike rider and you haven’t used your “regular” human-powered bike for years, getting a hunting e-bike with 500 W might be a great idea to start with. As a beginner, you want to practice your riding skills first without going too fast or trying to tackle too challenging terrain.

A 500 W hunting electric bike would be a great practice companion for shorter or easier hunting trips until you’ve earned your bearings and feel confident enough to upgrade to a stronger bike.

Is It Worth Buying An Electric Bike?

This really depends on your circumstances and the reason and purpose for which you want to buy your electric bike.

Generally speaking, electric hunting bikes fill a gap by allowing people that can not or no longer ride a “regular” bicycle to continue with their hunting lifestyle.

Whether you suffer from (exercise-induced) asthma, have knee problems, or have other mobility issues, a hunting e-bike can greatly extend your capabilities and let you enjoy doing what you love most for much longer.

Even younger or more mobile hunters enjoy hunting with electric bikes for their off-road capabilities or when fighting the wind while carrying a lot of gear to their favorite hunting spot.

What Makes A Good Electric Hunting Bike?

While this depends to a large degree on the use cases that you have in mind for your electric bike, I’d like to give you the following pointers:

Generally speaking, there’s not one thing that turns an ebike into an electric hunting bike. Rather it’s the combination of different features and capabilities all in one electric bike. These include, for example,

  • strong electric motors,
  • a large battery,
  • a strong frame,
  • fat tires,
  • good front fork suspension combined with
  • great load capacity.

Most hunting ebikes are being used primarily off-road. Having said that, if you want to use your electric bike for other purposes as well, for example,

  • to go camping,
  • to go fishing,
  • to run errands or
  • to commute to and from work

many hunting electric bikes can perform those tasks very well, too.

In terms of off-road riding, the most challenging obstacles are hills. The steeper they are the stronger the motor has to be to climb them. You want a motor with a peak power output of at least 1,000 W if you intend to climb steeper hills regularly.

If you have some electric bike experience you might want to consider a mid drive bike or one with dual hub motors as these have better hill climbing capabilities than single hub motor ebikes. However, a rear hub motor is more forgiving and better suited if you’re a beginner rider.

Are E-Bikes Good For Hunting?

Electric hunting bikes are excellent for hunting. They are not just regular ebikes with some camouflage paint. They are very strong and powerful ebikes that are purposely built to be an effective piece of hunting gear in the modern hunter’s arsenal.

  • With an electric bike, a hunter can dramatically increase his or her chances of hunting success.
  • Hunting e-bikes also allow hunters with mobility issues to enjoy a hunting lifestyle that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
  • Electric hunting bikes can reduce the physical stress of carrying lots of hunting gear or recovering your hunt when moving between your ambush site and your truck.
  • With hunting ebikes you also give peace of mind to your loved ones. They have the confidence that your eBike can get you back home even in the unfortunate event of an accident or an injury.

Overall, electric hunting bikes offer a tremendous amount of benefits and they’re poised to become the modern hunter’s best hunting companion.

Are Rambo Bikes Good?

Rambo is one of the top brands of premium electric hunting bikes in the US.

Rambo Bikes specializes in building tough powerful ebikes perfect for off-roading, hunting, fishing, camping, or any other outdoor adventure that requires high quality and exceptional strength.

They’re located in Portland, Oregon with production facilities in the Pacific Northwest. If you’re looking for a hunting electric bike for your personal needs and you prefer to buy products made in the United States why not have a closer look at Rambo Bikes.

Can I Use An Electric Hunting Bike On Public Land?

Electric hunting bikes are still a relatively new phenomenon and legislation has yet to fully catch up and embrace the issue.

In many jurisdictions within the US, the laws governing the use of ebikes are evolving and changing frequently. As the usage of electric bikes for hunting becomes more mainstream and accepted more and more jurisdictions will increase the number of places where hunting ebikes can be used.

This number is constantly growing and so I can only give you a glimpse at Public Land regulations as of writing this article. If you read this post at a later point in time regulations might have already changed again.

However, as of now, you can ride your electric bike for hunting on any trail or road on federal lands where motorized vehicles are allowed, too. Having said that, please keep in mind that this is NOT legal advice. If in doubt, you should always check with a qualified legal professional.

How Is Electric Bike Range Calculated?

Electric bike range is the maximum distance an eBike can travel on a single battery charge without pedaling. It’s an important measurement for any e-bike but especially if you want to go hunting.

Of course, you can always extend your range by pedaling instead of using the throttle to preserve the energy in your battery. You can also bring along a solar charger or a second battery to extend the range of your hunting ebike even further.

However, in many cases, the range of an electric bike is just a theoretical number because a Class 1 or Class 3 ebike is not allowed to have a throttle-only mode and therefore you shouldn’t be able to use those bikes without pedaling.

In those cases, you have to calculate the maximum battery range by multiplying the voltage (V) of your eBike’s battery with the AmpHours (Ah) of the battery you get the Watt Hours (Wh) of the battery.

As a general rule of thumb, you can estimate that everything else being equal, an electric bike with a higher Wh can travel a greater distance on a single charge than a hunting ebike with a lower Wh.

For hunting electric bikes, it’s estimated that 1 mile of travel consumes between 4 Wh to 35 Wh of energy depending on many different factors such as weight, terrain, wind conditions, speed, etc.

To make different electric hunting bikes more comparable, it’s widely accepted to base the calculation of energy consumption on an estimated 20 Wh per mile. In other words, you simply divide the Wh you calculated earlier by 20 to obtain a rough estimate of how far your hunting e-bike can travel without pedaling on a single battery charge.

However, I want to emphasize one more time that this is NOT an accurate number. It’s just a way for you to compare the range capabilities of different ebikes for hunting and thereby enabling you to find the best electric hunting bike for your personal needs.

Can I Use Regular Electric Mountain Bike for Hunting?

The quick answer is Yes, you can. The longer answer is slightly more differentiated.

If you don’t have any electric bike yet you have the option between a very specialized hunting ebike or an electric mountain bike that you might convert or adjust for your hunting purposes.

If you want to use your electric bike for hunting but also your daily commute or to ride some trails during your holidays or time off work an electric mountain bike might give you the desired flexibility and range.

I’d strongly recommend choosing a fat tire electric mountain bike to give you the necessary grip and traction when hunting off road on all types of difficult or challenging terrains. You’ll also enjoy the extra balance and cushioning provided by the fat tires.

An electric mountain bike for hunting doesn’t have all the features or benefits of a regular electric bike for hunting but it allows you to travel undetected in stealth mode with only minimal scent or noise.

Electric hunting mountain bikes can also make a huge difference if you’re physically not in the best shape or have other challenges that prevent you from riding a regular bicycle over difficult terrain for a longer time, probably while carrying a significant amount of weight in the form of your gear or your hunt.

Not having to pedal that much or not at all can be a real energy saver for you and even allow you to access more remote areas or hunt for larger game.

Mountain bikes are already designed to handle steep hills and other difficult terrains. However, they’re not necessarily designed or equipped to carry a lot of weight. To transform your regular mountain bike into an effective electric mountain bike for hunting I’d recommend you add a rear cargo rack to help you transport more stuff.

With any electric mountain bike for hunting you can haul more weight with less physical effort. I’d also recommend adding a tow behind mountain bike trailer to further increase the amount of weight you can bring along.
