Rambo Megatron Review: How Good Is This Electric Hunting Bike?

The Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD is probably the flagship electric hunting bike from Rambo.

First introduced in 2021 it’s the only All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) hunting electric bike from Rambo.

It’s an absolutely awesome powerhouse that feels almost more like riding a dirt bike.

It comes in the popular TrueTimber Viper Western Camo paint and is designed to deliver incredible power even on the harshest terrains.

Each Rambo bike is designed to serve a specific purpose whether you’re riding in the city, riding two tracks, riding single tracks, or riding big train, for example.

The Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD electric hunting bike is truly a high-performance workhorse that lets you climb steep paths, ride through deep snow, or along sandy beaches with unbelievable ease.

In this Rambo Megatron review, you’ll discover why it’s an amazing tool to put into your hunting or fishing tool kit or just for having bucket loads of fun.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About Climbing Hills?

It almost feels like an insult to even question how well the Megatron 1000 X2WD can climb hills.

Being an All-Wheel drive hunting ebike there’s probably nothing the Megatron enjoys more than hauling you and your load up and down any kind of sloped or hilly terrain.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Motor

This beast features not just one but TWO Bafang 1000 Watt hub drive motors.

Rambo Megatron Ebike Review

One motor is located in the front wheel and the other in the rear wheel.

What’s even better, you can easily switch between an All-Wheel drive mode and Rear-Hub-Motor-Only or Front-Hub-Motor-Only mode.

This gives you maximum control over your riding performance allowing you to crank it up to all-wheel drive when it’s needed while also preserving valuable battery charge on mild terrain.

Each of these motors has a peak power rating of 1500 W putting an incredible 3000 W of combined total peak power output at your fingertips.

You can ride this awesome machine either in Throttle-Only or cadence-sensing Pedal-Assist mode.

If 3000 W is too much for you why not check out some more options in my article about finding the best electric hunting bike for your needs.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Brakes

Rambo Megatron 1000 Review

Having such powerful motors at your disposal also requires an equally impressive stopping power. And the Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD does not disappoint.

It comes fully equipped with Tektro HD-E725 4 Piston hydraulic brakes at the front and rear wheels. At the front, you have a 203 mm rotor while in the rear you have a 180 mm rotor.

The stopping power of these brakes is phenomenal. But, there’s more.

Given the awesome power of these motors, coupled with the weight of the Megatron, Rambo has also equipped this great electric hunting bike with motor inhibitors.

Every time you hit the brakes, the two motors also instantly shut off avoiding a battle between motors and brakes and instead having all parts work in harmony together to achieve a common goal.

Beautiful.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About Challenging Off-Road Terrain?

Handling challenging off-road terrain is kind of the essence of an effective electric hunting bike which is why the next few sections of this Rambo Megatron review are dedicated to this topic.

The Megatron 1000 X2WD was not specifically designed to work in snowy or icy conditions but the hosts at Ultimate Outdoor Adventures TV tried it anyway.

They wanted to see how well the Megatron performed in thick snow and they were not disappointed.

Using only the front hub motor or only the rear hub motor they found the Megatron could easily handle riding in 6 inches of fresh powdery snow without any problems.

Using the All-Wheel drive they were blown away by the performance of the Megatron electric hunting bike in at least a foot of fresh and powdery snow.

So, even though the Megatron was not designed for snow if you’re ice fishing or late-season hunting and you have fresh snow, for example, the Megatron would be a great tool to have in your arsenal.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Tires

Rambo Megatron Bike Review

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

When first introduced the Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD electric hunting bike came with massive Maxxis Minion 26 x 4.8’’ fat tires.

However, maybe due to supply chain issues, the Megatron currently features equally impressive and capable 26 x 4.5’’ fat tires. These tires give you great traction on any off-road terrain.

The Megatron hunting ebike also has 100mm wide double-wall rims w/o holes.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Suspension

The Megatron is a hardtail ebike with a very effective GT MRK 355 Air 26 front suspension fork.

This fork has 120 mm of travel and re-bound damping adjustment to allow your shock absorbers to return to their original extension fast enough ready to absorb the next bump.

Tuned correctly, it can give you much improved comfort and control when you’re moving over various kinds of terrain.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Seat

The Megatron 1000 X2WD electric hunting bike is equipped with the Selle Royal A027HEO saddle.

It’s a comfortable premium seat that can be found on almost all Rambo Bikes premium hunting ebikes.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Gearing

Rambo Megatron Review Of Gearing

Next in my Rambo Megatron review, we look at the gearing of the Megatron or should I say the absence of it, to be more precise.

Featuring 2 powerful motors and 2 massive batteries the Megatron electric hunting bike is heavier than other hunting ebikes. It can be ridden using just human power but it’s not designed with that use case at the forefront. It’s primarily intended to be used either in throttle-only mode or with Pedal-Assist mode.

As a result, Rambo had the foresight to make this hunting behemoth a single-speed ebike.

There’s no gearing and no derailleur to worry about and you have ample control over the amount of power provided by the Megatron using the different cadence-sensing Pedal-Assist levels combined with using either one of the 2 motors or both of them together.

To handle the immense power, Rambo has opted to include the extra strong Rambo Custom Built 36T Narrow Wide chainring.

A wise decision, indeed.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Cockpit

Rambo Megatron Cockpit Review

The handlebar on the Megatron is from PROMAX with a comfortable handle width of 770 mm for great stability and handling. It’s a quality component that you can also find on many other Rambo premium electric hunting bikes.

The Megatron has the PROMAX MA-50 stem which has also been battle-tested on other Rambo hunting ebikes.

The grips on the Megatron, however, can only be found on the top-of-the-range Rambo hunting electric bikes. They are Velo 122 mm ergonomic lock-on grips that look cool and feel firm and solid.

The two motors are controlled via a thumb throttle that’s mounted on the right side of the handlebar.

The super bright full color digital display is easy to read even in sunny conditions and keeps you updated on your rpms, your speed, your battery life, etc.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About Carrying A Lot Of Weight?

As you would expect from a Rambo electric hunting bike, it has a load capacity of an awesome 300 lbs getting you and all your gear wherever you want to go.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Racks

If you need more storage capacity the Rambo Megatron electric hunting bike comes with bosses in the head tube for an optional front rack and bosses for the optional rear rack.

Rambo offers a lot of high-quality and very useful accessories. I especially like the Triple Accessories Bag.

You can check it out on their website.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Trailer

Even though the trailer is not included in the basic price I just wanted to briefly mention it in this Rambo Megatron review.

Rambo offers a whole range of different trailers you can easily attach to your Megatron hunting ebike. This type of accessory is obviously very important and I think it’s good to know that Rambo has you covered.

Regardless of whether you need to haul out your big game (Congrats!) or you want to transport your kayak, Rambo offers a trailer for that, too.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About The Range?

Since the Rambo Megatron hunting electric bike has TWO massive batteries you can expect a greater than-usual range.

According to Rambo Bikes, a range of up to 80 miles is achievable.

That’s awesome news if you’re planning some great overnight extreme hunting or overnight backpacking, for example.

Rambo Megatron Review: Let’s Look At The Battery

Rambo Megatron Review Of Battery

But let’s look at the numbers.

As I mentioned, there are two frame-integrated batteries on the Megatron 1000 X2WD. Each of these lithium-ion batteries has 48 V and 17 Ah. This gives you a total of 34 Ah – awesome!

1 battery sits inside the down tube and the other is mounted on top of the down tube. Both batteries can be locked and/or removed individually.

Let’s use my “traditional” way of comparing ranges on different electric hunting bikes.

With 48 V and 34 Ah the Megatron 1000 X2WD provides you with a jaw-dropping 1,632 Wh. If 1 mile consumes 20 Wh, the Megatron offers an amazing 81.6 miles of range on a single charge without any pedaling at all.

Of course, this is just a theoretical number, and as I always mention your actual range will vary depending on many factors such as the amount of weight you’re carrying, the type of terrain you’re riding across, the speed with which you’re traveling, etc.

But considering that many other premium hunting electric bikes top out somewhere in the 30 – 40 miles range you get an idea of the awesomeness of the Rambo Megatron 1000 X2WD electric hunting bike, right?

Rambo Megatron Review: What About The Speed?

The Megatron has a top speed of 28 mph.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About Upgrades, Addons, And Accessories?

Overall, the Megatron is a very well-organised electric hunting bike with the wiring all routed through the frame.

I also like the pedals which are the Wellgo B807DU, battle-tested on all premium hunting electric bikes from Rambo.

Rambo Megatron Review: How To Transport Your Electric Hunting Bike?

Rambo Megatron Bike Review Of Transportability

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

Next in my Rambo Megatron review, I want to briefly cover the issue of weight as this might influence how easy it is to load your hunting eBike on and off your truck.

Like all other Rambo premium electric hunting bikes, the Megatron 1000 X2WD has a frame made from high-quality aluminum alloy 6061.

Of course, featuring 2 powerful motors and 2 massive batteries takes its toll on the overall weight of this hunting behemoth.

With a weight of about 77 lbs. the Megatron feels much heavier than many other ebikes but maybe less than one might expect.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About Warranties And Guarantees?

Rambo Megatron Review: What About Warranties?

At the time of writing this review, Rambo offers the Megatron with their STANDARD LIMITED WARRANTY which I would summarize like this: lifetime warranty on the frame and a 1-year warranty on everything else.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About Guarantees?

At the time of writing this, Rambo also offers a 30-day money-back or replacement guarantee for an unused bike.

Rambo Megatron Review: Who Should Buy This Electric Hunting Bike?

Rambo Megatron Electric Bike Review Of Suitability

Image: ©Rambo Bikes

As you have seen so far, the Rambo Megatron is an outstanding premium hunting eBike.

But there are a few limitations that I want to include in this Rambo Megatron review as they might influence your purchasing decision.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About The Size?

The Megatron 1000 X2WD electric hunting bike features a “medium” frame size of 19.7″ and a Stand Over Height of 31.6”.

Rambo Megatron Review: What About eBike Laws?

With 2 1000 W motors, the Megatron does not fit into any of the 3 electric bike classifications you can find in many jurisdictions (Class 1, Class 2, Class 3).

The Megatron is intended to be used on private land or in areas where it can be ridden legally, for example in areas where motorized vehicles are permitted.

Always check the legalities first before riding your Megatron or any other electric hunting bike to protect the reputation of hunters, ebike riders in general, and the Rambo brand.

Rambo Megatron Review: My Conclusion

I hope you found this Rambo Megatron review interesting and beneficial.

This amazing electric hunting bike has a lot to offer to the passionate hunter.

Please let me know if I missed anything important in this Rambo Megatron review so that I can include it as well.

Happy Riding
